Yellow caps indicate St. Guido's pilgrims
|
The heavens are proclaiming the Glory of God and all creation is celebrating the canonization of Saint Guido Maria Conforti. You can see official Vatican photos of the October 23 Mass on our Flckr feed. There were 50,000 people at the event, thousands of whom were friends of the Xaverian Missionaries from all over the world. Saint Guido Maria Conforti offers us a vision of the world as one family working for the good of all.

UK FOCUS
Are you ready for ADVENTure?
ADVENTure is an annual Advent project created by Fire.Cloud- run for and by 17 - 35 year old Catholics in Glasgow to provide some time out to deepen our faith in the run up to Christmas.
ADVENTure has grown substantially since its inception in 2007 and over the years it has brought together young Catholics across Glasgow.
Each ADVENTure evening has inspirational speakers, great music and quiet time for prayer and Adoration. It's a great chance to meet and socialise with other young people and get some time out between Christmas shopping and partying.
Since 2007, ADVENTure sessions have been organised by Fire. Cloud, "a friendly little non-profit organisation based in Glasgow that do interesting stuff with arts and research to show that faith can be a force for good in the world."

"COMMON GOOD"
 |
A Pakistani boy eats a discarded tomato as he sits amid trash in a slum. Nearly 120 million people are forced to spend 50 to 70 percent of their incomes on food.
|
The phrase is used 22 times in the 11 pages of the recent "note" from the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace urging reform of the international financial and monetary systems.
The document also speaks of "common dignity," "common vision," "common decisions" and of "universal brotherhood." In fact, the needs of "universal brotherhood," say the writers, transcend considerations of the marketplace. Learn more
"Occupy Together" Prayer Service
Many people of faith are part of the occupy movement. Others, especially religious leaders, wish to share their support of the concerns being lifted up during the protests. Here is an interfaith prayer service that can be used or adapted.

CONFORTI INSTITUTE
Preparing for the Journey
Members of the Institute Education team will deliver 6 day retreats for pupils from Cardinal Winning and St Oswald's schools during November and December on the theme of "preparing for the journey". The retreats are part of the chaplaincy support provided to schools for pupils with special educational needs.
Newman Day
Institute staff also provided workshops on November 18 as part of the programme at Newman College, Preston. The College has established a tradition of inviting in a wide range of organisations each November to build awareness of the needs present in both the local community and the wider world and to encourage them to play an active role in changing the world.
Pilot Retreat Programme
In collaboration with Paisley Diocesan Youth Officer, Christine Riddoch, Institute staff have led a series of 2-day residential retreats for new first-year high school pupils from 5 schools. Evaluation from participants and accompanying staff has been very positive and we hope to be able to offer the programme more widely next year. Contact Conforti Institute for more information on any of our programmes or visit our website.

In Memoriam
Fr. John Ceresoli, S.X., M.A.
Xaverian Missionary
Born in Filago Bergamo, Italy on 19 August 1946, Fr John went to God in Scotland on 22 October 2011, the eve of the canonisation of Xaverian Founder, St Guido Maria Conforti.
Entering the mother house in Parma in 1957, John came to Scotland to study theology and was ordained in Glasgow on 27th September 1970.
He then shared his time between Scotland and Sierra Leone, spending a total of 19 years in Africa. Returning to Scotland in 2004, he spent his last two years as parish priest in St Alphonsus Parish in Glasgow, where he was much loved.
Within two weeks of diagnosis, Fr John died in St Andrew's Hospice , Airdrie, surrounded by members of his family, who had travelled from Italy. They joined other relatives and representatives of his home town in a packed parish church on Monday 31st October for his Requiem, where his Xaverian brothers were also joined by Archbishop Mario Conti of Glasgow, Bishop Jospeh Devine of Motherwell and priests from both dioceses.
Fr John Convery spoke of John's passion for ministry, whether among the people of Sierra Leone or in "the Calton", one of the poorest areas of Glasgow. His nephew, Fr Luca Ceresoli also delivered a homily in Italian.
Fr John will be remembered by all those who knew and loved him for his down to earth manner, his humility and his sense of fun.
