Serve the Poor, Bring Justice, Change
the World through the Eucharist
|

St.
John Chrysostom has said: Do you wish to honor the body of
Christ? Do not pay him homage in the temple clad in silk
only to neglect him outside where he suffers cold and
nakedness. The One who said this is my body is the same
One who said: You saw me hungry and you gave me no food,
and whatever you did to the least of my brothers you did
also to me. What good is it if the Eucharistic table is
overloaded with golden chalices and a fellow human being is
dying of hunger. John Paul II, Apostolic Letter: The Day of
the Lord
On June 15-22, 2008 the 49th International Eucharistic Congress
will take place in Quebec City, Canada. The theme is:
Gift of God for the Life of the World. Also in this
month we are approaching the celebrations of the death and
resurrection of Jesus of Holy Week, particularly through the
institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper, and we
ponder anew how the Eucharist calls us to serve the poor,
bring justice, and change the world.
Try to get to the International Eucharistic Congress this
year. What a great get away!
The Eucharist - "Project of Global Solidarity"
|
 The
Eucharist is not merely an expression of communion in the
Church?s life; it is also a project of solidarity for all of
humanity. In the celebration of the Eucharist, the Church
constantly renews her awareness of being a sign and
instrument not only of intimate union with God but also of
the unity of the whole human race. Each Mass, even when
celebrated in obscurity or in isolation, always has a
universal character. The Christian who takes part in the
Eucharist learns to be promoter of communion, peace, and
solidarity in every situation. More than ever, learn to
experience the Eucharist as the great school of peace,
forming men and women who, at various levels of
responsibility in social, cultural and political life, can
become promoters of dialogue and communion. John Paul
II, Apostolic Letter: Year of the Eucharist, 2004

The
Christian who takes part in the Eucharist learns to become a
promoter of communion, peace and solidarity in every
situation. More than ever, our troubled world, which began
the new Millennium with the specter of terrorism and the
tragedy of war, demands that Christians learn to experience
the Eucharist as a great school of
peace."
John Paul II. On example of this school may be found in
Sharon, Massachusetts.

On March 8,women
all
over the world celebrate International Women?s Day. A
national holiday in many countries and commemorated by
the United Nations, International Women's Day is the
story of ordinary women as makers of history. Though
often divided by national boundaries and by ethnic,
linguistic, cultural, economic and political
differences, this day allows women everywhere to look
back on a tradition of struggle for equality, justice,
peace and development. Women of the World:
Acoustic is an exploration of acoustic music by
some of the world?s leading female artists.

Provoke believes the desire for social justice has long been
a central theme, not only of our own Roman Catholic
tradition, but of all the world religions. Provoke starts
with that desire and engages you from the vantage of your
own faith. As we explore issues of social justice and
ethics, we do so within the context of inter-religious
dialogue, and in the process, discover a rich treasure of
common values.
