At a series of meetings last month, Metro representatives shared its conceptual plans with council, the Souderton Planning Commission, and residents.

At the December 8 meeting, Metro is expected to address the concerns of Borough Council and nearby residents, which range from the viability of a private fitness center to a greater feeling of open space.

Council Adopts 2009 Budget, No Tax Increase

At the December 1 meeting, Borough Council adopted Souderton's 2009 budget, which requires no tax increase. At $2.6 million, the budget is about $133,000 more than the 2008 budget, but the increase is balanced by decreased spending in some areas and a new local service tax for those who work in the borough.

The real estate tax will remain at 4.415 mills. View the 2009 budget online.

New Local Service Tax Starts Jan. 1

Starting January 1, 2009, people who work in the borough will pay a new local service tax. Souderton employers will withhold one dollar per week, amounting to a $52 tax annually. The money will support Souderton's emergency services, such as the volunteer fire company and ambulance, and go toward road repairs and improvements.
Souderton 50th Anniversary Holiday Parade: Saturday, Dec. 6

Join friends and neighbors for a day of holiday cheer on Saturday, December 6. The parade starts at 11 a.m., and with 50% more participants than last year, it's guaranteed to be a good time and a great place to spot Santa Claus. Starting at Summer and Main Streets, the parade continues down Main Street, turns left on Broad Street and ends at School Lane.

Join us in celebrating the Holiday Parade's 50th year since it was reinstated in 1958. The parade, which dates back to the 1920s, was suspended during World War II. For more information, visit the Souderton-Telford Main Streets Web site.
