 With Visions of Gingerbread....

The baking of gingerbread houses has long been a Christmas tradition, and some are truly architectural wonders - here's a little Gingerbread trivia for you.  The 19th century publishing of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel" brought the tradition to popularity and early German settlers brought the tradition of "lebkuchenhaeusie" to the Americas.  The largest gingerbread house was constructed at the Mall of America and measured 67 feet tall and was 1,496 square feet of pure confection.

So what does this have to do with the Gettysburg Festival you may say.  Well, for the last two years we have had the privilege of hosting a community event that features, what else, the Gingerbread House.  Gingerbread House builders are needed.  Get your family together and create a special memory.   Click here for more information and to sign up to contribute a Gingerbread House.

Beech Spring Farm Barn
Beech Springs Farm in the Fall

The Gettysburg Festival is grateful to Jayne and Bill Shord for hosting several Festival events over the past years at their amazing property, Beech Springs Farm.  Now is your chance to see this beautiful barn in a different season at Historic Gettysburg Adams County's Civil War Barn Dance on Saturday, October 6.  Come learn to dance (Period attire is encouraged but not required), enjoy a meal with friends (Civil War style Ham & Bean Soup Dinner), and help preserve Adams County's beautiful barns!

Tickets are required - call 717.334.5185 for details or click here to see the barn dance poster.
Kudos to our Photographers

Ten days and over 100 events are not easy to capture in photographs, but the Gettysburg Festival was fortunate to have three photographers on the scene to record the highlights.  Thanks to John Armstrong, Erin Bennett and Liam Straton who were the eyes behind the lenses.  We hope you enjoy looking at the pictures on our website.  If you captured images you would like to share, please send them our way and we'll post them on our website or Facebook.
