Greetings!
YTA is embarking on a new journey, and we need your help!
When getting your needs heard and addressed, there's power in numbers-and a unified voice.
One Vision/One Voice
As a member of YTA, you are the organization. Our membership has increased to over 2,100 members from every job category in the district. We have a very ambitious goal to reach our first goal of 3,000 members
over the next 2 to 3 years and have at least 50% membership in every
job category. We have heard that there is power in numbers, and nothing
could be further from the truth.
We have entered into a partnership agreement with TSTA to have our own full-time staff (Mark Maldonado) in YTA, who began working for us on October 12th. Mark is a Texas native from Dallas and holds an undergraduate degree from Texas A&M and a JD from Georgia. Please welcome Mark as he visits your campuses.
One of our Core Values as NEA members is Collective Action, which states that "we believe individuals are
strengthened when they work together for the common good. As education
professionals, we improve both our professional status and the quality
of public education when we unite and advocate collectively."
We have also began conversations with other unions in the area to
develop a partnership that will expand our voting power beyond our
membership. There are almost 7,000 TSTA members in the El Paso area and
growing. We recently attended a weekend training with the President of
the El Paso Firefighters Association, Joe Tellez and plan on continuing
and expanding the partnership with the Police and Sheriffs Associations.

During American Education Week, November 15-21, 2009, Americans
nationwide will join the National Education Association in raising
awareness about the need to provide every child with a quality public
education. The celebration highlights the importance of bringing
together educators, parents, students, and communities in a unified
effort to build great public schools. It also reflects NEA's vision of
calling upon America to provide public school students with quality
schools so that they can grow and achieve in the 21st century.

YTA Community Outreach
As a professional public education organization, YTA is committed to doing our part in partnering with other organizations to give back to our community.
The El Paso Center for Children has a rich history of caring for El Paso youth,
having provided homes and specialized care for four generations of children
and families in need. Their mission is "A Chance for Every Child", which is in line with our mission as NEA members, to "Provide Great Public Schools for Every Child". As partners, we will seek help from our members to provide year round support. We will set up drop boxes with the most needed items throughout the year
During the next month, we will run a campaign to assist with their program for the Holiday's, which consist of sponsoring a foster child's meat at the Holiday party for $8 and/or a $50 for a foster child's holiday gift card. Our goal will be to sponsor 72 children with a gift card and a meal for the holidays. We are asking that you get together with your colleagues and help raise $58 ($50 gift card + $8 for meal) per campus, grade level and/or department! Please make checks payable to Ysleta Teachers Association or YTA. YTA will present one check to Center for Children for the total raised at our Campus Leader Meeting on December 8, 2009 Your Campus Leaders will have more information next week....Stay Tuned!
