HAPPY 2011 FROM MIKE PETERS
| Mike Peters is a 2 time Leukemia Survivor, lead singer of the Alarm and co-founder of Love Hope Strength |
On behalf of all of us at Love Hope Strength Foundation, I am writing to wish you and your loved ones a very Happy and Healthy New Year, I am also writing to you to thank you for all the love, hope and strength you have given to the foundation founded in the same name.
Since James Chippendale and I came up with the dream of Love Hope Strength back in Wales during the summer of 2007 so much has happened, and a lot of that is down to the endeavour and commitment of so many people like you from all over the globe who have been called together to take up arms in the fight against cancer. This year, you and your commitment have helped to turn Love Hope Strength into the world's leading rock and roll cancer foundation.
The flag of Love Hope Strength was first flown on top of the Empire State Building on April 16th 2007, since then it has been unfurled many times and in some of the world's highest places, from Everest to Kilimanjaro, from Snowdon to Peru and from Pike's Peak to Mt. Fuji. Wherever the flag has revealed it's colours, the battle has raged hard with the names and memories of those who have been lost or continue to fight, carried by those who care to fly forever in the wind. To be part of even one of these many LHS experiences is to be part of something very special indeed.
Because of you, Love Hope Strength has brought succour to many. Cancer patients at Bhaktapur Cancer Centre in Nepal can now begin to experience something like the care we have here in my home country of Wales. Children in Tanzania will now have a place to turn to should they be stricken with the kind of cancer related illnesses Doctors can treat and control in the USA. Millions of people attending rock concerts in the USA and UK now know of the massive need for Bone Marrow Donors with over 9,000 people registered through the outreach of Love Hope Strength volunteers, aka 'rockstars and roadies', and the growing support of musicians and sponsors like Visa, DKMS, HealthONE, Barclays Bank, Ralph Schomp, Marmot, Epiphone, Backpacker Magazine, Smith Optics, KeyBank, Keen, Wolverine and more.
This summer alone LHS was able to find 50 matches for patients in need of transplants. We witnessed, first-hand, the triumph over cancer by our newest staff member, Jeni Garner, as she went through, and successfully recovered, from her own transplant. And, in just a few weeks, we will return to East Africa for the opening of the very first children's cancer center in Tanzania. The 3 units in this facility will be named "Love", "Hope" and "Strength" and will treat children of all ages and cancers thanks to the success of Kilimanjaro Rocks in 2009, and all of you who supported us. Watch the Video.
So many of you have made things happen by making the simple things spectacular, such as climbing mountains, running marathons, or baking cakes in the name of LHS. The response has been incredible wherever the call has been made. I hope you can feel as proud as I do about what has been achieved.
In 2011, let's raise the stakes even higher, there is still so much to be done. Keep and eye out for the incredible 2011 "Rocks" events that will be announced soon. And, wherever you go or wherever you are, pull on that LHS t- shirt or snap on that LHS leather cuff and wear it with pride in the knowledge that you have played a significant part in making a difference in the lives of those who need a little Love Hope Strength.
Love Hope Strength,
MORE TO LIVE FOR Coming to a film festival near you!!
"More to Live For" (Director Noah Hutton) is the story of three lives, all shaken by cancer and dependent upon the one vital bone marrow match that could save them. These individuals are similar only in their fate and prolific accomplishments: Michael Brecker, 15-time Grammy winner, one of the greatest tenor saxophonists of all time; James Chippendale, entertainment executive and founder of The Love Hope Strength foundation, the largest music centric cancer charity in the world and Seun Adebiyi, a young Nigerian training to become the first ever Nigerian winter Olympic athlete in any sport.
Their unrelated paths become connected in a desperate fight for survival and a singular mission: to bring awareness about bone marrow donation to the millions of people who could save a life today. A film of tragedy and loss, strength and hope, "More to Live For" presents the stories of three individuals facing life and death, and their commitment to making a difference. These deeply personal accounts of confronting illness will inspire hope and action, leaving the viewer empowered to become part of the cure.

Worldwide, cancer causes more deaths than AIDS,
tuberculosis, and malaria combined.
The mission of Love Hope Strength is to save lives, right now, with the advances that have already been made in cancer care. We do not fund cancer research, rather we use funds to:
Build and support cancer centers around the world,
Build international marrow databases through our GET ON THE LIST campaign and,
Build awareness of global cancer needs through film and music.
