Feline Navidad: A Story
xmas cat
The holiday season is upon us; surrounding us with good will, lots of chill, and neighbors in competition to see who can place the most strands of lights into one electrical outlet. We wear cheerful holiday colors of red and green, and place artificial reindeer antlers and Santa hats on the heads of our unhappy pets.

By the time Calli Vanderaa discovered the seven-week-old puppies in the garbage dumpster stationed behind her house, the fourth grader had spent two years soaking up ample evidence of society's dark underbelly. She'd already seen more than most people witness in a lifetime...

Ready to really go green? There are lots of ways you can "spruce" up your holidays with all natural products

Take, for example, reindeer poop ornaments. At $5 each, you can even get a certificate of authenticity! Looking for a holiday gift idea? How about "elephant poop journals" or "Butt Print art" (literally).
Happy Holidays, !

If you're like us, you're waiting until the last minute for...well, everything. Even our newsletter was hit with an onslaught of issues this week! But, we have pulled it out with a quick rescue and have a few stories, a silly poem, some last minute holiday ideas (like reindeer poop ornaments, elephant dung journals and a really cool camera for your cat). Seriously, while we do have those in this issue, we have lots of really great products and some coupons to help with your last minute shopping.

Whether we're ready or not, the holidays are upon us. In between bouts of destroying the household holiday decorations, my pets are wrapping (well, I'm wrapping, they're unwrapping) the few holiday gifts we have. Have you gotten your shopping done? I know that we'll be up to the deadline this year...

While we have been struggling to get into the holidays this year, we've done our best to get you in the "mood". We have lots of heartwarming stories, some freebies, and lots of other goodies. Read on for the latest on holidays at our den!
A Few Of Our Favorite Things
Tomorrow is the LAST DAY to ship (at most places) for Christmas! Of course, the procrastinators amongst us have a few extra days, but why wait?

We have been very busy with product reviews and will continue to profile these in future newsletters with "actual" reviews. But we did want to get a few of our favorites in here so you can order in time for the holidays. We know that you will enjoy them as much as we have!

SleepyPodSleepypod Mobile Pet Bed: This is a very sturdy carrier that doubles as a bed (removable top) and allows you to securely seatbelt your pets into the car. With the new foster puppies and the cog, we've been putting this product to great use and we know you'll love it as well.

crinkledancer
PURRfect Crinkle Dancer Cat Toy: VEE enterprises manufactures this "Best in Show for 2008" cat toy and our cats love it. The first important thing is that it won't fall apart. The next important thing is that it's not that expensive. We know your cats will love it as much as our 18 do!

Mouse hunterOur Pets: Play 'n Squeak
This group has some of the coolest cat toys we've seen in a long time. With lifelike sounding squeak, you can endulge your cat's hunting instinct without fear! Dozens of toys to choose from, and a very complete review is coming up in our next edition. The one pictured is our personal favorite, but there are dozens more that we'll be reviewing in January!

Laser Touch One: Cold laser therapy to naturally and quickly eliminate both yours, and your pets, pain. Great for pets with hip dysplasia or soft-tissue injuries. (Email us and purchase for 10% off!)

DogTraks GPS Tracking: No more escapes for your pooch! Read our review at PetsWeekly.Flingama

Flingama: New "string thrower" that our cats love! This product has made our list because it allows our pets to stay entertained for hours. Sturdy, well built and a great value. We know you'll love it as much as we do! Enter the code PetsWeekly to save 10% off of your order.

SleepurzSleepurz Hammock: For cats, this is our ultimate most favorite product. Read the cog's review here.

petcamPets Eye View Camera: Want to know what your dog or cat is seeing each morning when you roam the house? Check out this "Cat Camera". At only $36, I know we're willing to see what our cats see! We'll try to get a review on this soon.

Drinkwell's New 360 Fountain: We've got a SNEAK PEAK of this fantastic product coming up in our next issue - don't miss it!

Top 10 Stupid Reasons People Give Up Pets
  1. "My dog doesn't match the sofa."
  2. "The dog looks evil and has different coloured eyes, just like David Bowie."
  3. "My black dog doesn't match new white carpet, can we swap him for a white dog?"
  4. "My current dog is too old, can we swap for a puppy or younger model?"
  5. "My dog ate the Christmas turkey cooling on the worktop."
  6. "My pet guinea pig got worried with a dog in the house."
  7. "The dog opened all the presents on Christmas Eve."
  8. The owner accidently knelt in dog wee while cleaning it up so brought the dog in the very next day.
  9. The puppy was bought as a present for elderly couple with dementia.
  10. The owner was paranoid about recent bad press on Staffordshire Bull Terriers, and the dog was given up through no fault of its own.

Naughty and Nice
By Stacy MantleXmas Cats
My pets socks were hung by the heater with care,
In hopes that St. Pet-a-lus soon would be there.

But all of their hopes and their wishes and dreams.
May all be for naught if things are as they seem...

The cats have been climbing the tree late each night,
The dogs keep opening others gifts with delight,
Cat Hockey each evening, and sleeping all day,
Being good is obviously not my pets forte'.

The dogs just won't heel; they won't sit or stay
The cats scratch and bite me and then run away

But, I have been good, fed and cleaned every day
Yet I don't think that Santa is coming my way
The economy's tanked, my friends are all poor
I'm not sure my pets will get presents or more...

It doesn't seem fair in the general scheme
But, having my pets is the main gift, it seems...

Thanks again for staying with us this year. We'll be back again before the new year to wish you all well and take a look at the "best of the Best" of 2009.

Before we go, a shout out to all of the rescuers in the world. Here's a little something for you. Thanks for all that you do...

A Rescuer's Creed

I shall be a believer of all that is good in man and of all that is
deserving in animals. I shall plead for their lives, campaign for their safety and uphold their right to a natural death. I shall seek out the injured and the maimed, the unloved, and the abandoned and tend to them in their last days. I shall not forget their place in the hierarchy of life, nor that we walk in each other's paths. I shall bear witness to the wonder they bring into our lives and to the beauty they bestow upon our souls. I shall renew their spirits when they are waning, bind their wounds when they bleed, cradle them when they whimper, and comfort them when they mourn. I shall be near them in their hour of greatest need - a companion and friend when the time has come. I shall watch over them and console them and ask
that the angels gather them in their arms. From the creatures of the earth I shall learn the fruits of compassion and undying love, and I shall be called the beloved of God. In their company I shall indeed be blessed.

Witty and insightful, the author leads her readers on a series of adventures based on actual events. The book begins with the arrival of Malachi and Aquilla, two rescued wolf dogs, and progress through the life of Tristan, a very intelligent coyote, his neurotic sidekick Roscoe (a beagle), and the abrupt arrival of eighteen indoor house cats. The result is a hilarious, inspiring and wildly entertaining collection of interconnected stories. This is a comedy, a romance and an adventure novel, all woven together with a philosophical approach to life.
