AquariumRoom for One More
(Author Unknown)

I see by his coat he must be a stray,
the untidy look gives him away.
He's lost his will and is so thin
hasn't eaten, since God knows when.
I know as I coax him through the door,
There's always room for one more.

The other night in the freezing rain,
That little female came again.
Matted and soaked crying in need,
lost and alone with babies to feed.
Her pleading eyes I couldn't ignore,
There's always room for one more.

There's a new face on the docks today,
hungry but clean, to our dismay,
I stroked her head
Her body ripples when she got up
I saw she was crippled
she started to go, but fell on the floor.
There's always room for one more.

There's the poor doggy standing in the rain,
I've tried to entice him time and again.
One ears lopsided the other's been torn,
Blind in one eye lost and forlorn.
He's coming now, so I'll open the door.
There's always room for one more.

These stories are true,
As I've said before,
There's always room for one more.

Holiday Lists

Greetings fellow packmate! Welcome back to PetsWeekly. I would telI you all that we've been up too, but I need my energy to complete this newsletter, so I'll spare you the sordid details.

Remember, it takes a pack to raise a website...

We have lots going on this month and I hope you'll read through this newsletter because we have a contest for a FREE PALISADES DOG PACK from RuffWear, and reviews of Ruffwear and Spray Alert, (an innovative product that helps you find your feline spray culprit!) Next month, we will have new reviews from Nite-Ize products, DogTraks, and lots more!

What We've Been Doing!
For those who don't know, I've been busy creating some new articles for Cat Fancy Magazine. If you're planning a vacation with your pets, check out the August issue for the Top Ten Pet-Friendly Luxury Resorts! I also hope you'll check out March's issue for a look at some luxurious cat homes in an article called "Fabulous Feline Design" for some great outdoor enclosures.

We've also been on the radio lately, and if you missed our most recent show on Healthylife.net with Wendy Nan Rees, you can listen in here:

Some of the other things we were involved over the last two months is a TNR, during which time we altered 17 adult cats and rescued 38 kittens (all under the age of 8 wks!). View our slide show of the babies at our blog (just scroll down for the show!)! We managed to place 15 of these little ones into wonderful homes, and we have 23 that are currently in foster looking for homes. If you are interested in adopting, please contact me at PetsWeekly and please be sure to refer others to us!  We also want to thank Circle L Ranch for their amazing adoption and rescue assistance, and Altered Tails for their spay/neuter sponsorship. We couldn't have done it without them!

On the not so good note, we have dealt with surgery (3 in the family, including my own), a near death experience (long story), the loss of a job and a few other things.

On the GOOD side, we did rescue 38 cats, gained a MUCH better job, I have a NEW NIECE (everyone welcome Alex!), we are almost done with our newest novel, we are halfway through an MBA program. We've also done 3 radio shows, and we have gotten 3 articles (2 of which were features) into Cat Fancy.  So - it's all good.  Just super busy and I ask your patience and forgiveness in slow email replies. The answers on why I've been so busy are above...

Holiday Lists Providing for Pets In Death
It's important to remember that our pets need to be cared for after our death. Many pets, including some reptiles and birds, easily have the potential to outlive even the youngest owner. Read this informative story from the AARP on how to protect your pets in the event of your death or incapacitation.
Holiday Lists Disaster Preparedness
We've got everything from mass flooding in the South to fires ravaging the Southwest. Learn to keep your pets safe with the Disaster Preparedness Guide from the ASCPA.

And please remember (and remind others) that walking your dog should only be done in the very early morning in areas of the country that are very hot. Take your shoes off and test the pavement yourself. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for your pets paws!

The AVMA has prepared a list of evacuation plans by state. The ASCPA, the Red Cross, FEMA and HSUS have extensive disaster recovery ideas and resource centers, so please be sure to take a look, download their materials and be safe. We've got a special page coming to PetsWeekly soon. Let's keep our pets as safe as our family!

Aquarium Saving America's Wolves
I know everyone is very busy, but this is a very important issue. As you know, I've been involved in wolves and wolf rescue for years, and twice before Defenders of Wildlife has applied enough pressure to stop Alaska from killing wolves from helicoptors. Alaska is now continuing their attempts to reinstate the horrible practice. It's time to stop the cruelty at the federal level.

This will only take a minute of your time. Click here, then click on the "Act Now" button and it will take you to a form letter to your Representative. You can personalize if you wish, but you don't have too. The letter will automatically be sent to your appropriate Representative. (Only those in the USA can participate, but I'm forwarding this to some wolf friends in other countries in hopes that you'll send it on to some others in America. Also note that Canada continues aerial shooting of wolves, so I hope some will write to the Canadian government, too.)

Guys, I don't often ask much of you but I would really love it if you would take an active role in championing this cause and it only takes a moment...

What does it really cost to raise a pet today? We think these projections are conservative, but then our pets are pretty spoiled!

4sight Top Ten Beginner Fish for Tanks
Interested in getting your tank up and runnning? Try out these species of fish for an easy beginning. Remember - certain types of fish, even amongst these species, do not get along. Do your homework before you add them to your tank or you could end up with a cat-tastrophe. Also, we can't say we agree with this list. If we had compiled it, we would have stayed with Barbs and Mollys, so be sure you check out the correct numbers to buy in (some like schools, others not so much), what to feed (some need pellets or bloodworms rather than flakes), and the Ph and Temperatures that they require.

1. Honey Gourami                                             2. Cherry Barb
3. Balloon Belly Molly                                     4. Kribensis
5. Aeneas Cory                                                   6. Glowlight Tetra
7. Zebra Danio                                                   8. Clown Pleco
9. Farlowella                                                     10. Angelfish
