Baby Greetings!

A happy howl to all of our pack mates!  Welcome to your PetsWeekly email! You'll be very pleased to know that we have our long awaited website (almost) completely overhauled! It's ALIVE! We wanted to surprise you, so surprise!  I hope that you'll all take some time to explore the new site, which is beautiful and much easier to navigate! You should be able to find things faster, navigate home easier and locate what you really want to read in seconds!  Bear with us as we continue our data transfer - we have a LOT of data that still needs to be imported into our new format. You may get directed to the old site for many pages, but just hit the back button and life will be restored!

While all of our materials are archived, including our reviews, remember that we're just starting out with our product reviews and articles for the sections on birds, horses, critters (exotics), reptiles and fish/ponds. We even have a section for all our Human friends! It will take some time to build these sections up, but we know how happy you'll be once we begin the process. We've got a number of companies with many innovative and unique products coming on board, and we will be reviewing those soon.

We're also going back to the radio!  Check us out on Deb Wolfe's radio show, The Animal Magnet, on Sept. 25 at 4:10 pm EST.  We'll be discussing the Top Ten Most Interesting New Pet Products, so don't miss it - it will be the Cat's Meow!

We've had another vet join our ranks, and I hope you'll all give Dr. Lori Coughlin a hearty welcome!  She will be handling the Cat Vet Questions, much as Dr. Florez handles the Dog Vet Questions. (By the way - we're looking for some talented individuals for our other sepcies if any vets are looking for a new hobby.)

The long weekend is over. It's been a rather productive weekend though. My husband and I were forced to build a new cat run for our "indoor-only" cats because they CHEWED THROUGH our old one! Geez... While we're trying to make all of our ferals indoor-only as well, they aren't fond of the idea. Since you have to start somewhere, we chose to keep all of the rest of our kitties indoor. Anyway, the enclosure turned out well! I'll send pics along later.

We'll be attending SuperZoo on the 19th of Sept and hope to return with some of the most interesting products around! Meanwhile, please be sure to support our advertisers and sponsors so that we can continue bringing you the best pet information and contests that you all love so much. We are adding reviews about pet products of all kinds, we're bringing on some fresh new writers and we're adding some fantastic graphics. If you haven't already subscribed, please do.

September 8 is World Rabies Day and I hope that you will take time to think about how you can contribute. This is a very important day for animal lovers. If you're interested in learning more (and I just know you are!), check out PetsWeekly World Rabies Page for all of the hard facts. There are lots of ways that you can get involved and help us rid the world of this very deadly disease. Remember Old Yeller? Yep - we could have avoided that tragedy if only we had World Rabies Day back then.

In case you haven't noticed, I've had a lot on my plate lately and I ask forgiveness from all who are seeking me out via email, phone or "stopping by" (which I despise by the way, so - call first). Things have just become slightly overwhelming and when I'm not working, writing or micro-managing, I'm hanging out with my VERY understanding hubby, energetic kids and hyperactive animals - all of whom have been incredibly supportive and loving during this crazy time.

The rest of my life, about an hour before bed, is devoted to "winding down" and this includes reading up on lots of fiction, most of which include vampire and werewolf books. I figure, if nothing else, it will give me some extra insight into the minds of our fellow wolves and bats. Keep in mind that this is coming from a person who (from birth) has had an absolutely crippling fear of vampires. Werewolves never worried me, I figured we could hang out, but vampires, well (shiver). They terrified me. That in mind, I'm really quite proud of myself for staying with these novels. The first I would recommend is a novel by Stephenie Meyers, start with Twilight (Twilight, Book 1), move through New Moon (Twilight, Book 2) and end with Eclipse (Twilight, Book 3). You won't regret it and the majority of vampires are "vegetarians." Meaning they only eat wild animals, not people. Now, I'm not really fond of them eating animals and would really prefer they would just eat evil humans, you know the animal abusers and child molesters of the world. But, I'll take this, then write the next book about that type of vampire. In fact, I already have. If you're super nice to me, subscribe to my site, order things from our advertisers - well, I may just give you all a sneak peak at the first chapter...

Okay - that's my "off-topic" note for the day! Please remember to take time to explore the site and try to support our sponsors and a. Bear with us as we transition - we promise to make it well worth your while!

Losing A Pet
Baby We have all lost pets. It's never a good thing. The grief can be overwhelming and most of our family and friends think we're a little nuts for feeling so sad. But there are many resources for us, we just have to hunt them down. Here are few for the rest of our pack:

Tales of Two Species
You've heard the hype, now see for yourself!  We've got entertaining articles and heartfelt stories on all species. Read a few over yourself. Check out our stories, poetry and articles about:

BabyFolks, there just aren't enough bad things to say about this idiot. I know many, if not all of you, feel much the same way as I do - what I would give for 2 minutes in a locked room with Vicks and a cattle prod...

Alas, there is not enough justice in the world and so we must make do with ensuring he never has the opportunity to do this again. That means we need to get involved with legislation, be proactive in prosecution (and DEMANDING prosecution), and following up with friends, family and neighbors to be certain this is not happening elsewhere. While we all know it is occuring, we should also realize that the more people we talk too, the faster we'll locate these rings and the quicker we'll liberate the animals and bring these idiots down. "Finding God" is just not good enough for redemption from these horrid acts of violence. So - please take some time to talk with others and if you see anything out of place, please report it.  Life is too short to put up with this type of thing in our society. If these people want to see a fight, let them crawl into the ring for awhile...
Police Dog Left In Car Dies
We talked about this last week, but I wanted to update everyone about this tragedy. They police opted to have a "private burial," and given the circumstances, it was probably wise.  The officer responsible is on administrative leave and is apparently only facing misdemeanor charges. Apparently while he was napping, running errands with kids and having dinner with his wife, his K9 partner was dying in his patrol car. To read the article, click here. Then get involved by writing a letter or email to the Chandler Police Department. This is outrageous.

Meanwhile, we just lost another K9 while on duty. Apparently he was chasing a suspect and was hit by a semi and killed. Click here to read.

On top of that, we lost yet another K9 recently due to circumstances that no one can seem to explain. Click here to read the story.

This is the fifth police dog to die this year, and that's five to many. Let's try to get involved and do something to help these pups.
World Rabies Day
catMore than 55,000 people, mostly in Africa and Asia , die from rabies every year-- a rate of one person every ten minutes. The most important source of rabies in humans in other parts of the world is from uncontrolled rabies in dogs...
