Greetings!
Purrs and headbutts to all of our pack mates! Welcome to your PetsWeekly email! I'm going to bypass a lot of the traditional happiness, because we had a tragic weekend. Baby took the journey to the Rainbow Bridge without us on Saturday morning, and we are mourning his loss. Baby was a wonderful little gray Manx mix who came to us nearly 6 years ago. He was only a few weeks old when we brought him home, and was in need of lots of special care and bottles of milk replacement, as well as lots of hugs. Ghost, our Tonkinese, took a special interest in Baby just as he does with all of our new kittens, and he taught him to hunt, helped wean him, and acted as "foster dad." He is feeling the loss most strongly.
We're not sure how Baby died, but we feel that he had some type of heart condition, particularly HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy). We found him at 5:00 am Saturday morning, and he was lying in back of our truck in the driveway. He looked very peaceful, as though he died calmly, and we feel he did not suffer. We took him to a crematory called All Pets, where they treated us wonderfully and treated Baby with care and respect, despite my hysterical sobbing. They do offer pick up, but we wanted to be a part of the process and to see their headquarters. We will be writing more on this experience soon, as we know that many of our readers are interested in how to handle the loss of their pets.
As you probably can guess, we are reeling from this loss. But, I know that Baby would have wanted me to tell you all. He spent many a day sleeping on my desk, lulled to sleep by the tap-tap-tapping of the keyboard. He loved the monitor, and enjoyed trying to catch the "mouse" as I pushed it around while working. We will miss him. I haven't been able to write a story about Baby yet. It's just too soon. But, I will. Meanwhile, I thank you all for your support.
And now, back to our newsletter. If you haven't done so already, please take our short survey. This will be the last week we offer the chance. If you take it, we'll enter your name into a drawing for a FREE Drinkwell's Pet Fountain! Remember, we NEVER sell your information - it's only for me and the pets to create an even better site for you.
We're anxiously awaiting our new website and I've been lax on posting new material as we have such a huge job with transferring PetsWeekly's hundreds of pages as it is. But, we had a couple of reviews that we know you'll want to read!
First is a new dog toy that you and your pet will love from Chase-it pet toys. This is a fantastic item designed for those of us who are too lazy (or tired) to get out of our chair and play with our dogs, or those who are wheel-chair bound. It's also a great tool for teaching your dog to fetch and to help younger children play with rambunctious dogs, and it's great for those who need to give their smaller dogs a workout, without letting them off-leash! In order to fully explain it, we need a little more room, so check out our review here. Even our cats love it!
Next we have something especially for the cats and their caretakers. This is a unique item that I love and they don't love, called SprayAlert. This handy little item is wonderful for those of us with more than one cat. If you always wonder which of your cats is to blame for ruined doors or walls, or that "stench" that you just can't get rid of, you'll love this product! Check it out here.
We want to offer Pauline Dewsberry our great wishes for a continued speedy recovery! She has felt well enough this week to take her website, The Daily Mews, back from me after nearly a year, and while I am grateful that it is off my list of things to do for now, I shall miss all of her readers! Hopefully they will stay in contact.
As usual, we have a special bonus for PetsWeekly readers. sScroll to the bottom of this week's newsletter (and every one afer this) where you will find a special coupon designed JUST for our readers! Use the savings to purchase something special for your pet, or even for someone else! You'll find wonderful savings each week - just for our subscribers! And please take a moment to forward this email on to others.
Purrs and gentle headbutts, Stacy

Losing A Pet
We have all lost pets. It's never a good thing. The grief can be overwhelming and most of our family and friends think we're a little nuts for feeling so sad. But there are many resources for us, we just have to hunt them down. Here are few for the rest of our pack:

Folks, I know for those of you who live in the desert, the word "coyote" inspires fear in you. Particularly those with cats or small dogs. I want to let you know that we need to set an example of tolerance for all of our neighborhoods. The coyotes were here long before we were, and we need to respect their area. Awhile back, a spokesperson for the AZ Game/Fish Dept publicly stated that we must be cruel to coyotes. This is not true. We need to respect them and plan for them, but killing them will not help. Please remember to set a good example for others to follow. A hatred of coyotes is no more reasonable than a hatred of specific breeeds. It is up to us educate the public...

Police Dog Left In Car Dies
We had another tragic loss of a Chandler, AZ police dog when his handler left him in a hot vehicle for TWELVE HOURS. There is NO excuse for this, particularly not when the handler is the Director of K9 Department. Now, unless we all get involved, this idiot may get off scot-free, with no charges even filed against him. We have to let the police know that this is completely unaceptable.
To read the article, click here. Then get involved by writing a letter or email to the Chandler Police Department. This is the third police dog to die this year, the second of which is heat-related for leaving a dog in a car.

Do Animals Have Souls?
I was talking with a
co-worker the other day and he informed me that animals do not have
emotions. This is just after he told me (the day that I put my dog
of 17yrs down) that animals do not have souls and therefore will
never enjoy the concept of heaven...
