PaperWhimsy
August 1, 2010

Happy August to you!  It's a swell time to stay out of the sweltering heat and enjoy the air-conditioned comfort of your favorite creatin' place.

Life has been far from lazy here, in the Land of PaperWhimsy despite the exhausting heat.  The shoppe continues to endure the dust of overhauling the Collage Images line (as do my wonderful customers who are politely trying to straddle between the old and the new).  A very warm "Thank you!" to all who took the time to send me emails about your favorite sheets.  FYI, I am still working on converting your favorites to PDF and promise to get those coupons out to you asap.  I will be very very glad to see the last of the coupons mailed because that will mean the dust has settled. :)

There is a lot in store for you this newsletter!  So, if you have a comfy place to sit to sip your morning coffee, please do join me.  It's so very nice to spend a Sunday morning with such lovely friends.

Rande Hanson

Hey, I know you...
It is with such pleasure that I announce the addition of Rande Hanson to the PaperWhimsy Design Team.  Joining Nancy Maxwell James who is the lead  Design Artist for paper, mixed media, and collage arts, Rande will be heading up the digital side of PaperWhimsy.

Rande is a self-taught mixed-media artist who loves painting, collage, jewelry-making, assemblage and fabric-art and has now added digital art to her creative palette.  Rande has been creating all her life but about five years ago she broke into the mixed media art world in a frenzy.  Selling her artwork on eBay, joining several art groups and participating in numerous art swaps.  As Rande tells it (and I love the telling), that is when she first spied PaperWhimsy and purchased her first PaperWhimsy image.  "I've been addicted to PW ever since", says Rande (lucky me!).  Rande once told me that she framed one of my collage sheets from my eBay days (it was the first print of a new sheet and it's probably worth millions, now). :)

As you may recall, Rande served as PaperWhimsy Design Artist for two years, from August 2007-2009.  After an extended break to focus on learning new mediums and techniques and to delve into the digital medium, she's back!  Rande's focus will be on the art of digital collage using the PaperWhimsy Hybrid line of products.  Stay tuned for some exciting digital adventures compliments of dear Rande (starting with this issue of the newsletter!)  You can keep tabs on Rande's beautiful artwork by visiting the Inspiration Blog or Rande's personal blog, R2artStudio.

Welcome (back), Ms Rande Hanson!

Shabby Tags by Nancy Maxwell James
Nancy has added more wonderful artwork to the Inspiration Blog, this week.  Whether your inclination is to dabble in paper arts or venture off and do some mixed-media or assemblage work, she's got you covered!  Using the newest pretty face, Sheet 227, Nancy has created a wonderful keepsake and she's sharing how she created this eye candy duo.  Please click on the teaser to the left to whisk on over to the Inspiration Blog to get the lowdown.

Gothic Arch by Nancy Maxwell James

A wonderful Gothic Arch by Nancy with a twist - can't you just imagine creating a banner of these?  Using several PW images including the little gal from Sheet 129 (a favorite of Christine Shebroe's) that is now available as a PDF download for print-your-own enthusiasts.  Of course, if you don't want to mess with the printing you can order little Miss 129 printed for you and YES... you can do this quick and easy-like from the same product listing.  The skinny on this project can be found by clicking on the teaser photo to your right...

Pretty Pail by Nancy Maxwell James
And this little pretty...  Making very good use of the wonderful patina of an old bucket, Nancy rustles up a lovely carry-all that would make an outstanding gift.  Or heck, keep it for yourself.  You deserve it.  You can catch the lowdown on Nancy's Little Altered Bucket by clicking on the teaser to your left.

You can also keep tabs on Nancy and her artwork by visiting the Inspiration Blog or by popping on over to her website.  And while you're at it be sure to visit Nancy's Etsy store as you just may want to treat yourself to some of her beautiful artwork.

Digital Side with Rande Hanson

Rande is going to be taking us on an excursion into the world of digital art sharing her amazing digital collages using images from the PaperWhimsy Hybrid line of products.  Rande will be sharing some tips and techniques throughout the coming months that will help point you in the right direction if you're new to digital art.  If you've been doing digital art for a while then this will be the perfect opportunity for you to see how the PaperWhimsy Hybrid products can be put to use.  Okay, blah blah blah, Gale... let's get to the artwork...

Rande's Digital Collages

Regal Lady

For Rande's great how-to that will give you the building blocks to create some amazing digital artwork of your own, please click on Rande's beautiful regal triptych, above.  What Rande provides in her tutorial for this newsletter is going to give you wings!  One thing about digital art - what you can imagine is pretty much what you can create, and with barely a thimbleful of knowledge you can create a whole heck of a lot.  Fly little, birdies, fly!
