Megafault, Earthstorm, Tornado Terror in New York... Dang, this is a great day. The sun is shining, I have some exciting news to share and the Syfy channel is hosting the disaster movie marathon. The popcorn is gonna be flying at my house in about 60 minutes.
And tomorrow, if the weather holds out, Draw and I are headed to one of our favorite all time spots for a picnic: Crown Hill Cemetery. What better place than a haunted cemetery to partake of some potables and edibles three weeks before Hallowe'en? Man, life is grand.
Just two of the wonderful and only kind of creepy sights you'll find at Crown Hill
Of course, I'll be taking my camera looking for good textures to snap which actually is a very nice segue into part of my exciting news...
This past week has been a week of happy discoveries and I'm hoping you'll enjoy these discoveries as much as I have been and will continue to do so in perpetuity (great word!).
Let me start by giggling just a bit, here. Okay... I have been collecting old stuff for a long time. Some of the old stuff, the photos, end up in wonderful collage sheets (she's new) for you to use in your artwork. Some of the old stuff is who knows where... you know the drill. You go to an antique fair or a flea market, you find some great doodads and whatnots for your art and then you tuck them away for a rainy day. And then forget (on purpose or by accident) that you have that old stuff as you're wandering around the next antique fair/flea market picking up old stuff, again. I do this all the time. I honestly don't know what kind of old stuff I have, anymore. But I also have some old stuff that I know exactly where it all is, because I walk right past it all as I go to bed every night. This particular old stuff is my antique books.
Every time we drive out to my sister's place, Draw and I pass this antique shop in Allen, Michigan (the Antiques Capitol of Michigan and maybe even the world). If it's open I'm reaching over for the brake pedal and yanking the steering wheel to the left. It's a wonder I haven't killed us both since Draw is driving. If that shop is open I have to go in. Even though it's dusty and cramped and dark there are these little rickety steps that snake down to a basement filled with antique books. Even though I have to take my inhaler with me because invariably I'll start to wheeze, there is no stopping me.
I've been doing this for several years.
And I don't only do it at this shop. I act this foolish wherever there are antique books.
So, the other day I glance at these books as I'm headed to the bedroom and suddenly I find myself plopping down in front of my bookcase/s and pulling one out. "Oh my", I breathe... as I'm flipping through a book from 1852. Look at these engravings (it's all coming back to me why I bought this particular book a dozen years ago). Another book comes off the shelf and another "Oh, my" tumbles from my smiling little lips.
The rest of the story? Well, it's one of those stories that you really don't want to end. At least I don't. If you take a gander at the PaperWhimsy shoppe you're going to discover a new section called "NEW! Jpgs" "New" all in caps with an exclamation point and then "Jpgs". Catchy, huh?
If you're into digital art or have a hankering to try your hand at it then these lovely bits have your name written all over them. If you're not into digital art but like to use antique engravings and illustrations in your mixed media work then these lovely bits have your name written all over them, too. The engravings and illustrations are all scanned at 300dpi (dots per inch) so they're perfect for printing before or after you play with them. And they're not skimpy little images. (You can resize them in your print dialog box if you're just printing and you don't want them quite as big as they are.)
So... how do you join in on this excitement? You can click on my digital collage, above, to be transported to the New! Jpgs section of the shoppe and see what's there. And, yep, the images in my collage are available, too, along with scores more.
Let's get this Happy Sunday rolling!

NEW! Jpgs...
|
Hi, me again. Just a peek at a few more of the more than 50 jpg images now available in the NEW! Jpgs section of the shoppe. This selection will be growing but what's so very cool is that you pay no shipping on digital downloads and you get them as soon as you submit your order with payment. And they're so very inexpensive and you can use them over and over again.
Good day, yeah?

Sale Away!
|
And besides something new and exciting, it's always a jolly day when there's a SALE. And there is.
Papers and glitters and ribbons and fibers and pigments... I'm breathless at the thought of it all. A perfect time to stock up on pretty doodads and essentials. I don't know about you, but when winter is lurking around the corner ready to pounce on me the only thing that makes me feel better is a toasty fire, a disaster movie and my art supplies. And maybe a good snuggle with Draw.
Please note: sale is on stock on hand, limited quantities. No special orders, no rainchecks.
