Last week I had the pleasure of my sister's company as well as my adorable niece's and their somewhat adorable dog (I do love that dog), and we spent (Laura, Chloe and I) four days doing art. ART. It was fantastic.
Now, the planning was quite intense prior to the visit. Knowing full well how Laura and I are when it comes to staying focused, we kept stressing "And all we're gonna do is art". "We're not gonna shop, we're gonna do art". "No way are we gonna go to Michael's and JoAnn's because we already have enough art supplies to choke a horse". "We're gonna get up early every day and we're just gonna do art". "That's all we're gonna do". "Art".
We commanded each other to stay with the plan and keep our nose to the grindstone. Yeah, grindstone because even if it's something we really want to do - we have this overwhelming compunction to try to play hooky from it. It's baffling how our minds work.
Anyway, Day One found us up bright and early planning out our activities for the day and darned if we didn't find ourselves in the car... driving... to Michael's. And JoAnn's. And the art store. All those horse-choking art supplies we had were NOT, amazingly, the ones we needed. Even with Laura's two huge crates of stuff and my houseful.
Yep, Day Two found us going through the same ritual. Michael's, JoAnn's, art store... Kolaches... Starbucks... Half Price Books... And all the while we're doing this we're yelling at each other: "We're supposed to be doing art!" "Oh, hey, look at this stuff".
Even with all that hookiness, though, we did. Miraculously we did do art. We were up til 2am every night, but by golly, we did art.
My art. Laura's pieces were much better. So, why this story? Well, for one, I like to blab every so often (just about every other Sunday) and for two - doing that art got me thinking about art. Like the drawing, painting kind of art that I used to do a hundred years ago when I thought I wanted to be an artist. And all that thinkin' has spilled over onto PaperWhimsy. I was continuing with the rekindling of my love affair with paint and stuff and this idea just came over me. I was using a PaperWhimsy image and the background just wasn't quite what I needed so I grabbed a piece of sandpaper and the rest, my friends, is history.
A new line: PaperWhimsy Sandies. Sounds like a cookie but it's actually a series of collage sheets with "sanded" out backgrounds leaving behind a wonderful mottled white base just crying out for colored pencil, pastel, watercolor, stamping...

Who doesn't like to color? I love to color. When my niece and I get together I'm begging her to drag out her coloring books and crayons. I can hardly wait to finish this newsletter so I can go sand out some more backgrounds for me to color... and for you to color. :o) So, to celebrate this new kooky whimsical invention of mine (I guess it would be an invention): The new PaperWhimsy Sandies line is 25% off along with all the rest of my print paper collage sheets in the regular Collage Sheet Section of the shoppe.
Gives you a chance to drag out your colored pencils or watercolors and give these new sheets a try and stock up on your old favorites while you're at it! No coupon necessary, just sign into the shoppe and shop. Fine print: Sale runs through Saturday, Sept 5, 2009, on paper collage sheets in the Collage Sheet section of the shoppe. Sale does does not include digital download sheets, print digi sheets, samplers or any media other than paper. Pink and Blue and Shimmery, too
|
Some lovely new bits have found their way to the PaperWhimsy shoppe, as well as a new line. I'm quite tickled to be offering Melissa Frances goodies. This is such a pretty collection and everyone loves pretty. And pink.
These little Bottle Brush Trees look good enough to eat! Three trees to the package and so many possibilities. They also come in Cream. You'll find them in Gotta Haves in Necessities.
Along with the trees is the Mica in Pink, Blue or White. Soft and shimmery with unlimited potential for creating some very whimsical art. Find them in Gotta Haves in Necessities.
And what's mica without the crepe paper? And this isn't just any old crepe paper - it's that really thick crinkly stuff made just for ART. You'll find this in Pretty Papiers. And I might have also stuck it in Gotta Haves in Necessites 'cuz you do.
Oh yes! And the old-fashioned tinsel. Sure, you can use tinsel for autumn and Hallowe'en. :o) Twelve yards should last you from now until Christmas.

And then there's...

It's a jolly good thing I have that New Bits button because I have a hard time keeping track of what's new and noteworthy.
Lots of new charms - I've become quite addicted to them. Even if you just string them on a pretty silk ribbon until you have time to create a piece of art around them, they're wonderful to have. I really am impressed with how substantial the pendants and charms are from Blue Moon Beads. You can see all the new baubles in the PaperWhimsy shoppe by clicking on the New Bits button below. And several other charms and beads and whatnots can be found in the Embellish! section.

That bee, above, is BEE-utiful. Yep, I did tuck TWO away for myself. I also really dig the Crowned Heart and the Winged Heart. I love the campy kitschy look of them. I'm hankering to concoct the perfect pieces for those gorgeous pendants. Maybe for the next newsletter. And speaking of Winged Hearts - those ArtGirlz pewter Winged Heart charms are back in stock. They sold out so quickly I made sure to reorder oodles of them.
There are several other new items that might pique your interest, including wonderful art pencils and watercolor pencils by Faber Castell. You can find all those goodies in the New Bits section of the shoppe.
