Which is similar in intensity to being a Trekkie but you cover your pointy ears with a deerstalker hat.
It all begins on a dark and stormy night some weeks back, when Draw adds a movie to our Netflix queue titled The Sign of Four with Jeremy Brett in the role of Sherlock Holmes. At first, I'm like, "who is this guy?" He was very frenetic, immensely quirky and veddy proper: stiff upper lip and all that rot. And the movie is made in, what? 1987? Good grief - I was barely out of knee pants <snort> when this guy was jumping out of windows and over couches in a mad dash for clues.
By the end of the movie I'm hooked. So back to Netflix and the beginning of the television series I go, dragging Draw behind me.
We are now the proud owners of the entire series, a special edition boxed set, from 1985 to 1994, all 39 episodes. Plus two movies. Remastered from the original negatives, no less, and including a small compendium of all the stories and who played what and where and when. It's all quite amazing, this love affair I'm having.
Last night, we had a Tea & Scones & Sherlock Holmes do. The Phillips (my youngest son is a Phillip, as well), Rachel (young Phillip's lovely girlfriend) and I sat transfixed in front of the TV smoking our pipes and sipping our tea. And trying to speak with an English accent. I said "little cottage" (li**le co**age - drop the "t's") because I always do a bang up job with that. But you can only say li**le co**age so many times before it starts getting on everyone's nerves.
"Isn't his deduction fantastic!" Phillip No. 2
"Li**le co**age." Me
"Can you pass me another scone, please." Phillip No. 1
"Li**le co**age." Me
"I love cream in my tea." Rachel
"Li**le co**age." Me
Of course, Draw did amazingly well - he can beat the pants off an English accent. And we all did a masterful job of eating two dozen scones covering them with raspberry jam and "squirty" cream (the stuff that comes out of a can - yes, Mummy, I couldn't find the clotted). Tonight, Draw and I will be at it again. I'm trying to savor each precious morsel but it's all too sweet to resist. I recommend, highly, if your diet has room for a spot of overacted, quirky British television drama with an actor who, by many, is considered to be the quintessential Sherlock Holmes.
The game's a'foot!

We Love Green!
|
Recently, Rande Hanson hosted a Green project in the PaperWhimsy Art Forum. For the sheer love of a challenge, several artists participated by going through their junk mail and trash bins searching for recyclable bits to use in the creation of some amazing art! There were 19 fabulous pieces submitted for this project.
Once the project was completed, the forum voted for the pieces they liked best. It really was a hard decision but a winner was crowned: Chris Capista! Chris is still on a decaffeinated high from drinking all that TAZO tea for her piece.
To see the rest of the winners, click on Chris's wonderful piece, above: Soul Mate. And then run to your trash can - it just shows to go ya that inspiration can be found in the most unassuming of places.
Congratulations, Chris Capista!

Hear Ye: New Digi Sheets
|
I've been cleaning house. It started with my studio slash office and with the moving of all my books came the happy rediscovery that I have a bunch of neat things I've not looked at in a very long time. Which, in turn, inspired me. And off I went. There are 18 NEW DIGI SHEETS. Let me say that, again... 18.NEW.DIGI.SHEETS. Since last we spoke. I'm actually, well... pretty darned, really, amazed by that. Just a few are pictured, below. ... And the cleaning of the studio slash office trickled on over to the computer. And it was here that I came upon the "retired" folder and decided to open it up... These pretty face have been or are being retired. But look how sweet, how pretty... Is there not a story or two left in them to be told? I think so. The pretty faces you see, above, are reduxes, just for this event, of some oldies but goldies and are now available in digital download (or print, if you wish) for a very limited time. Until August 31, 2009, and then back in the PaperWhimsy vault they will go. So... something old... something new... something pretty... something blue... hopefully, something to spark your imagination and have you doing a merry jig all the way to your art table!

And that's not all...
|
Several other new bits have popped up in the shoppe. Needlefelting has come back! Lots of pretty fibers to play with along with the needles and foam. And the wools and wool felt to use as substrates. You'll be creating in no time at all.
Some Fabric Fun Dye Sticks if you've been hankering to venture off into working with textiles.
Some pretty new trims to add to any art you're doing, be it fabric, needlefelted or paper...
So much. Please be sure to check the NEW BITS section to see all the new as well as the "back in stocks" that were new last we spoke and then gone in a faerie second.
TTFN! Warmest, Gale
