Happy July!
While many of you have yet to put on your traveling shoes this summer, my traveling shoes are packed away and I've got my Whimsy boots back on (those things that look amazingly like fuzzy pink slippers).
I love the traveling and if I had more time and more money and a couple of little faeries keeping an eye on the shoppe, I'd do a lot more of it. But with that said, I love living my trip over and over again, right here at my desk, through my photos. I have over 1700 from this year's walkabout which is a whole lot of "rememberies" for this old daydreamer.
'Tis good to be back home though, in my normal routine, but those 11
days of traipsing through every garden within a 30 mile radius of
Bramblings was outstanding.
And eating whatever I wanted (like cream teas!)? The icing on the
cake, which I also ate... along with the cake. I'm juiced to report
that the only souvenir I brought back from all that bad girl pigging out was a mere two pounds. Now, the trick is coming to terms with not eating anything and everything because I'm not walking four miles a day. (Walking four miles through English gardens is not the same as walking four miles around my neighborhood).
The rose garden at Waddesdon Manor "whimsy" styleIn between the massive amounts of printing/picking/packing/posting that I'm still burrowing my way through (and the not eating), I've been finding a few moments to play with some of my photos. Two new digisheets are now listed in the shoppe (see the image above for a sneak peek) and there are a few WsIP (Works in Progress). Watch for more sheets to emerge in the coming weeks as I put together my digital travelogue for you.
It's good to be back, it's great to chat with you, I hope you have a lovely start to this new week and lots of time to play with art!
Enthusiastically, Gale

Hear Ye Hear Ye!

I admit it... every other month when I receive my Somerset Studio, after I look for my ad, I look for artwork using PaperWhimsy images. It is a monumental thrill for me to see all your beautiful pieces being published using my images. The fact that you even use my images is the greatest gift. It is something that amazes me every day and keeps my artistic juices flowing.
This month's issue of Somerset Studio had the added delight for me of featuring a spread by our own Rande Hanson in "With One Palette". Bravo, Rande! They could fill a whole magazine with your gorgeous art.
If you haven't seen this issue, here's a little peek and perhaps an incentive to dash out to your local bookstore and pick up a copy to add to your library.
Rande's recent post in the Inspiration Blog will provide you with a closer look at these wonderful pieces along with some tips for putting together your own palette of coordinating art. You can find Rande's post HERE. If artwork you've created using PaperWhimsy images has been published in Somerset Studio and you've mentioned PaperWhimsy in your description, please drop me an email. I'd like to feature your artwork in my newsletter and give you a little something to boot. hello (at) paperwhimsy dot com Happy Creating!

Home is Where the Heart is...
|
No matter how exotic and exciting your summer travel is this year, being away punctuates how great it is to have your own special place to get back to. I think that's why we are all so enamored of artwork that includes images of houses. It is the place that holds the things we cherish most. Like a box of special treasures.
Rande's "Home" collage illustrates those feelings of warmth quite aptly... click on the image below to magically transport yourself to her post and be inspired to create your own tribute to Home.

Gather Ye Rosebuds...
|
Now's the perfect time to add precious elements to your art stash that in many cases are free: flowers. It is the season of blossoms and they are just as beautiful dried or pressed as they are when they are still in the vase or on the bush.
Drying rosebuds is particularly easy - before they start to drop their petals, just hang them upside down out of direct sunlight. The pure pleasure of recycling them in your art, as Rande has done with her "PaperWhimsy Rose" piece, below, is well worth the little effort it takes. Click on Rande's collage for a closer look and a quick list of the elements she's used to compose her collage and then get thee to the garden!

More Nectar from Rande
|
Travel over to the Inspiration Blog to view all the beautiful art and inspiration provided for us by Rande. She's cooked up several more pieces that will have you hopping and skipping all the way to your art table.
And be sure to check out the archives. To the right, in the blog, is the archives which covers 21 months worth of inspiration! You will not be disappointed.
Besides enjoying all of Rande's artwork in the Inspiration Blog, you simply must travel to Rande's Etsy Shoppe where several of the pieces you see in the blog are available to own. Yes! Own! Including several more beautiful pieces that are not featured in the blog.
Rande's artwork is something to behold and to actually have a piece hanging on your wall or dangling from your wrist? Heaven!

New Stuff in the Shoppe
|
Yes! There are some new treats in the PaperWhimsy shoppe. I just discovered something called Smooch and had to get it in. You can paint on metal with this stuff. And chipboard and cardstock and glass and acrylic... and paper. Check it out by clicking on the New Bits button up top or go to Pigments & Glitter under Necessities. Lot of colors (several of them brand brand new) from which to choose, all pearlized for those whimsical sparkly-lovers out there (mememe).
Check out the little velvet blooms from Maya Road. These are so darned cute! Small enough to use in just about any size piece, including ATCs. Pink & Yellow or Coffee & Cream.
Also from Maya Road are the Mini Chipboard Gears and the Mini Chipboard Tags. I love all this new little stuff.
Back in the shoppe are Tim Holtz Keyholes (paint 'em up with Smooch!), the 7Gypsies Transparencies, and the 7Gypsies ephemera: Gypsy and Vintage, that flew out the door the last time I had them.
And, of course, the twoest newest digisheets featuring... MY VACATION.
All the new stuff can be found by clicking the New Bits button, above.
Have a lovely week!
