I am in love with black. It is my staple color.
I own 15 pair of black slacks in one form or another and 12 black skirts, long, short and in between. I have 20 pair of black shoes/boots. My coats are black, my scarves are black, I have two black hats and three pair of black gloves.
I'm not sure when this all started. I remember a time when I used to wear yellow (heaven forbid) and blue, red and orange (even worse than yellow) and green (not so bad if it's like an antiquey or olivey green). And lots of purple. Purple was a good color for me. But, for some reason, my wardrobe became completely devoid of color somewhere along the way.
When it came time to design a website for PaperWhimsy (with Draw doing the actual constructing) it only made sense that it would be BLACK. Like my wardrobe. I've had various black websites for three or four years now and I've been perfectly happy with that color choice.
But... now you're looking around and you've noticed there's something lighter and brighter about this morning/afternoon/evening. Something softer and kind of girly... and you giggle and take a sip of your coffee/tea and a nibble of your donut/crumbcake/scone/toast and wonder what magical spell has been cast over you that suddenly you feel like flying.
It's the new PaperWhimsy!!! It is! It's softer... it's brighter... it's positively... feminine. And it isn't black.
Sigh... I feel the very same way.
So... today is the big reveal and I welcome you to it! I can't think of anyone I would rather share it with. We've been at this for several weeks, Draw and I. And in the course of the emergence of this softer, lighter more whimsical side of PaperWhimsy came the discovery that not all monitors a peach does make.
One good monitor callibrator between us and Draw and I were right as rain and on to the discovery of the absolute perfect color combo for the new PaperWhimsy. Those of who are members of the PaperWhimsy Art Forum will attest to the many changes in colors and backgrounds that bombarded them with each login to the forum.
But the dust has settle and it's here - it's chosen - it's sublime - it's me. And, hopefully, it's you, too.
Ahhhhhh... let's say we clink our coffee cups to a bright and cheery Sunday as we sit back and chat a while. Not only is there a new color to PaperWhimsy but there's also a new shoppe. No change is too big for a Gemini. If I'm changing the color then I'm changing the whole dang thing.
Viva la Peachy PaperWhimsy! Viva la Sunday mornings!
Hugs, Gale

Oh So Pretty!

Have you ever dreamed of dressing up like Cinderella and going to a Ball? Or maybe you dressed your Barbie or your paper dollies and imagined romantic interludes with a Prince Charming while dancing to the strains of Blue Danube (like you even knew what that was when you were a kid). If any of this has ever crossed your mind then please accept this invitation to attend the one, the only, the amazing... The PaperWhimsy Art Forum is getting all spruced up for an amazing and magical adventure hosted by the amazing and magical Theresa Martin. And all you have to do, in order to attend this fete, is be a PaperWhimsy Art Forum member and create an amazing and magical dress (as you well know - any good ball worth it's salt requires formal attire). Pull out all the stops and create the dress you would love to wear, in miniature. It can be fabric or paper or a combination of both - it can be glittery and diaphanous, it can be grungey and Gothic, it can be pink! Or blue... it just has to be you. Please pop into the PaperWhimsy Art Forum to pick up the details and start creating! We will have a special gallery set up for the entries, and once all the guests' dresses have arrived there will be a random drawing for a $50 gift certificate to the most magical place of all (no, not DisneyWorld)... the PaperWhimsy Shoppe! P.S. The delicious confection you see above was created by Theresa Martin. A feast for the eyes; look all you want... not a calorie to be had. |
New & Exciting Additions
Of course, you've must know, with a brand new color scheme and shoppe comes a brand new bunch of great goodies. Everything looks so great with this new background I can't stop buying stuff to see how it looks in the shoppe. So, what new things are afoot? The sound of trumpets trumpet ethusiastically and a hush falls over the crowd... everyone is holding their breath because this new thing is so momentous, so remarkable...that it takes a minute to fully grasp the word... Digisheets... Digisheets...Let me say it again... Digisheets...Yes, digisheets have come to PaperWhimsy! If you take a peek here, you'll see the beginnings of a brand new line of PaperWhimsy collage sheets that will eventually have it's own home, called: DigiWhimsy. (How cute is that?) But, baby steps for now. Well, toddler steps because any sheet that was not a Whimsy kid is no longer available in its old version. All those sheets have been or are in the process of being reborn as digisheets. Not just transferred over but really reborn as in redone, revamped, redesigned. Oh joy! You'll never run out of your favorite PaperWhimsy non-kid sheets, again. You buy the digifile, you receive it immediately, and you print to your heart's content. Do not dismay if you do not have a printer, though... you will still be able to purchase these digisheets as a high-quality print sheet through a special link. But chances are you do have a printer, and with some quick print tips, you're going to be on your way to printing in lickety-split order. Keep your eyes on the Digisheets area of the shoppe for daily additions. And, that's another great thing - you don't pay any shipping on the digisheets so you can order as they're listed. And yes, the PaperWhimsy kids are alive and well and will still be available along with several new faces planned for the coming weeks and months. Those beautiful faces still have stories to tell.

Let's Party!
Gosh, this is a fun newsletter for me. So many exciting changes going on and to cap it all off... today is my one year anniversary. One year ago today, I started working full time at PaperWhimsy. I can't believe it. And I'm still enjoying it. It was a bit scary leaving that other job but so very necessary and I've never regretted it for a single moment. Sure, I put on 10 pounds because the walk from my bed to the studio is pretty short. Even if I were to walk it 50 times a day. But, instead of getting a job that takes me out of my pajamas and out of the house I bought a trampoline which also doubles as a foot stool in the living room. And every so often when I feel the urge, I go jump. Jump for joy because "the man" I'm working for now is ME! Well, you can't have an anniversary without a party. And with the new shoppe and all the new digisheets it just feels right... it just feels good... it feels fun as all get out that I should throw a little party in honor of a little dream that has become a reality. So! As a thank you to all my wonderful and faithful customers who put up with rather lengthy ship times and who fervently support my dream by shopping at PaperWhimsy, I would like to say "Let's Party!". Starting right now and running until midnight this coming Saturday, July 19th, all PaperWhimsy collage sheets are on sale. (YES, this new shopping cart allows me to do that). 25% off any collage sheets - paper, transparency, fabric... even the new digisheets. Because collage sheets started this little venture and you've all kept it alive. Scroll down to the bottom of this newsletter to pick up your special coupon code. It is valid for as many times as you shop between now and July 19! I thank you from the bottom of my heart. And the top and both sides. Thank you. ***

Besides Collage Sheets...
So here's the rest of the story... Tim Holtz has added a few more things to his burgeoning line of inspiration starters (lucky us!). How about these darling little trinket pins... 15 trinket pins to a package so trinkets should be delighted that they're finally going to get to dangle from your art or a pretty handpainted ribbon. Look for them in Embelllishments and in NEW GOODIES. And TH's Journaling Tickets for your most whimsical journeys. These are about 2"x3" each and you get 24. I think Digisheet 029 would be a perfect accompaniment to these, if you happen to love some of the most beautiful words in the English language. Journaling Tickets and beautiful words are like bread and butter, to and fro, ice cream and cone. Can't have one without t'other... You can find these cuties in Paper Doodads and NEW GOODIES. Making Memories just came out with a new line of stamps - those wonderful clear ones so you can actually see where you're stamping. I was particularly taken with these two sheets cuz you know I love to journal and who doesn't love ornament stamps. Check them out... You'll find them in The Necessities cuz that's what they are :o) And NEW GOODIES, of course. And heaven's to Betsy! Look what I found in a drawer - I love these little Matchbook Kits from Basic Grey! You could do so many things with these such as stamp on them (see above) or stick tickets on them (see above above). With very little effort and a lot of love you could create a keepsake for someone just because... Several different patterns from which to choose. Adorable! Look for these and more in Paper Doodads. And man, that Prima... just got these in the other day. Theyve been on order for forever - I forgot I'd even ordered them. Imagine my delight when I found a big yellow Prima box sitting at my front door. And just imagine your delight when you get your PaperWhimsy order and you find some of these inside... Look for these pretty petals in Pretty Petals. Gosh, there's so much more I can't remember it all. Thank goodness we still have that... you know what... just click on NEW GOODIES. |
Inspirations 2 Art: Rande Hanson
With so many new things in the Paperwhimsy Shoppe, it was hard for me to pick just one or two things to highlight this month. Gale has been busy creating new digisheets, and I am really enjoying creating with them. I have posted several collages on my blog showing how I have used the digisheets to add to the many wonderful images we all have in our Paperwhimsy collection.
Over the next few months, I will share my artwork with the new digisheets, and also share some tips on how to use them and even variations on printing. So be sure to check my blog regularly.
Hurry over to the new shoppe, you will love it! Warmest, Rande

Special News
Joy, oh, joy! That is what I feel everytime I look at these wonderful, whimsical dresses created by the amazing artist, JoAnnA Pierotti. And more joy because I've managed to snatch a few from her stash to sell in the PaperWhimsy Shoppe! (Thank you, JoAnnA!). And even MORE joy because JoAnnA is in her art room as we speak (or maybe not right as we speak as it's quite early where she's at) painting away, creating more of her dresses especially sized to fit some of her favorite PaperWhimsy kids! I feel like Snoopy doing a happy dance! You'll find these pretties in Pretty Papers.
