Feel Good Friday - Lessons From Apollo 13
Week 46 2011
apollo13
Greetings!

Our current worldly plight reminds me somewhat of the movie Apollo 13.

I don't think too many people in our world at the moment, certainly our leaders of government really appreciate how far oil as a resource goes deep within our system and what affect it has on the growth model when its price starts to rise and become more volatile due to the fact as a resource it begins to shrink.

Our modern day society has been built on oil, it is a resource that not only has fired us to the moon but has enabled our population to grow to what it is now, 7 Billion worldwide. In order to sustain that population with less oil in the equation we are going to have to be very creative with our solutions as we attempt to land Spaceship Earth within a more sustainable future. Society, (business included) will have to change beyond all recognition in order to be able to do this.

Never fear however if the film is anything to go by, all is possible. To see how the astronauts did it click here, or to learn more please read on.

Have a great weekend.

Kind regards

Simon

Apollo 13
How do the lessons of this failed mission serve us today?
apollo safe
On April 11th 1970 the Apollo 13 mission to land on the moon for the 7th time was launched. However 2 days later an oxygen tank exploded in a routine procedure being conducted on board. It crippled the service module of which the command module depended. The mission to land on the moon had to be aborted and NASA was faced with its greatest challenge of all, to get its astronauts home, safe.

With limited power and increasing levels of CO2 (sounds familiar) it was no mean task in order to successfully do this. Procedures needed to be altered, pilots had to revert to manual flying without the use of computers and technicians had to work out how to get square pegs into round holes. A series of different challenges needed to be overcome in order to get the Lunar Module in affect their lifeboat, back to Earth and the crew home with ever dwindling resources.

As a society we are now faced with a similar problem or challenge, we have used half of our oil supply to shoot for the moon, that moon in affect is an infinitely growing population, it was a doomed mission from the start, as anyone would know that has bothered to look out the window because we live in a finite world. That was even before the explosion of CO2 and population levels in the 20th century occurred. For sometime now as a species we have been living beyond our means and now need to create a more sustainable solution with less resources available to us if we are to live a happy, harmonious life in the future.

As with the Apollo 13 mission the only way of landing our Spaceship Earth in a more sustainable future without a huge loss of life, will be by working more collaboratively together and tapping into the collective genius that exists within our society, coming up with solutions that we as yet do not realize exist.

Beyond all other things however in order to make this truly work we are going to have to rediscover what it is to relate to one another in as peaceful a way as is possible, re-establishing what it is to truly know ourselves, be able to communicate with others and live in harmony with the Earth. We shall have to work as a team, with all the other creatures on the planet as well as the planet itself. For it is only then that we shall be able to truly sustain ourselves as we go forward into our collective future.

If wishing to embrace the change that is imminent, starting to relate to yourself, others and the planet better, why not see how myself and Set Your Spirit Free can help you, why not contact me now to see how best we can get started.
