If you already have a flat-screen or projector with 16:9 aspect ratio you have surely noticed the black bars on the top and bottom when watching movies. That is because HDTV uses the 16:9 or 1.78:1 aspect ratio and film typically is shot in 2.35:1.


There is no great solution to overcome these black bars for flat-screen viewing other than to stretch the image and thus reduce the native resolution. There are however a couple of amazing solutions for projector owners.

CineWide uses a fixed anamorphic lens while Cinewide with AutoScope moves the anamorphic lens in and out of position automatically.

With AutoScope, the 16:9 image is displayed as normal. When the image passes through the anamorphic lens, the image is stretched horizontally to restore geometry and fill the 2.35:1 aspect ratio of the screen.
