Donations Wanted for Craft & Book Sale
|
On Saturday, November 12th the Sturgis Library will be hosting a Cosy Craft and Book Sale from 10 AM to 2 PM.
Get an early start to your holiday shopping, or stock up on books that show you how to make your own gifts. The theme of this sale is home-made and hand-made items, and goods are $25 and under. All proceeds go to support programming here at Sturgis Library. Do you have a crafting skill? We will gladly accept donations of small-to-medium hand-crafted items for the sale, as well as books on crafts, holidays, cooking, and books to give as gifts.
The sale will be followed by a concert by local singer-songwriter Diana DiGioia. West Barnstable resident Diana Di Gioia will give an afternoon concert at 3:00 p.m., joined by guitarist Dan Givins. Included in her set will be songs from her recent album, Out Late, which has been described as "smart, sexy, funny and irreverent." Di Gioia follows the traditions of songwriting masters like John Prine, Michelle Shocked, and Lucinda Williams, and her songs travel musically from rock and blues to folk and acoustic, featuring soulful harmonies and strong melodic hooks. Her first CD, which Diana dubbed "missives from the lesbian-centric corner of the universe," was chosen for a feature spot on Pride Radio Denmark, on the Stonewall Society's on line "Rainbow World Radio," and made the Out Voices top ten chart four months in a row. A second CD is in the works, featuring a more Americana sound and stories drawn from Diana's rural Vermont roots. Here's a sample from a recent show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ti2UaXqJ2Fk. |

Calling All Volunteers!
|
The Sturgis Library needs volunteers to help in the following ways:
- Work in the Library's Book and Gift Shop for a few hours a month. Book shop volunteers help sell books, put books on display, restock shelves, and interact with customers and visitors. It's a great job for someone who loves books and loves people. No heavy lifting required. Volunteers of all ages -- from teens to seniors -- are welcomed! Please contact Lucy Loomis, Library Director, at 508-362-6636 or via email at sturgislibrary@comcast.net for more information on this volunteer opportunity.
- Help with shelving, processing, and organization of library materials throughout the year. This job requires the ability to work on your feet and move books and library materials on a cart. For more information on this volunteer job, please contact Karen Horn, Circulation Coordinator, at 508-362-6636 or via email at khorn@clamsnet.org.
- Help with mailings of newsletters and other other correspondence. We do several major mailings during the year, and need volunteers to help fold, label, and stuff envelopes and help sort the pieces for mailing. If you are interested in getting on our contact list for mailing assistance, please contact Eileen O'Neill at sturgisadmin@comcast.net or 508-362-6636.
