Tickets are on sale now for Autumnfest, a gala fall event

cohosted by the Sturgis Library and Barnstable Historical Society, which will be held on Saturday, September 17th, 2011 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM.

Join us on the grounds of the W. F. Jones House, 3087 Main Street (Route 6A), across the street from the Sturgis Library, for elegant food and refreshments, amazing auction items, and the company of good friends.  September is beautiful here on Cape Cod -- let's celebrate it!

Auction items include coveted tickets to sporting events, antiques, artwork and photography, gift baskets, gift certificates to local restaurants and stores, historical items, one-of-a-kind excursions and "experiences," specialty clothing, gourmet food and wine, and much more.  Auction items will be on display at the Barnstable Historical Society the week prior to the event.  A catalog of auction items will also be posted on our website.  Those who are unable to attend can place absentee bids at the Historical Society.

Tickets to the event are $40 each, and are on sale now at both the Sturgis Library and the Barnstable Historical Society, and will also be on sale at the door. Don't wait till the last minute!  Get your tickets now!

There is still time to donate items to the auction!  There is a link to a donation form and letter on the Autumnfest webpage at www.sturgislibrary.org/news/detail/autumnfest1/.  You can also contact Lucy Loomis, Library Director, at 508-362-6636 or sturgislibrary@comcast.net, or Robbie Stewart, BHS Program Chairman, at 508-362-2982.  Donations may be dropped off at the Library or Historical Society, or call us for pickup.

There will be new posts each week, so visit often, subscribe with your RSS feed reader, or become a follower.  Please leave a comment if you visit.  And if you have interesting items to share, let us know!

Calling All Volunteers!

volunteerThe Sturgis Library needs volunteers to help in the following ways:
  • Work in the Library's Book and Gift Shop for a few hours a month.  Book shop volunteers help sell books, put books on display, restock shelves, and interact with customers and visitors.  It's a great job for someone who loves books and loves people.  No heavy lifting required.  Volunteers of all ages -- from teens to seniors -- are welcomed!  Please contact Lucy Loomis, Library Director, at 508-362-6636 or via email at  sturgislibrary@comcast.net for more information on this volunteer opportunity.
  • Help with shelving, processing, and organization of library materials throughout the year.  This job requires the ability to work on your feet and move books and library materials on a cart.   For more information on this volunteer job, please contact Karen Horn, Circulation Coordinator, at 508-362-6636 or via email at khorn@clamsnet.org.
  • Help with mailings of newsletters and other other correspondence.  We do several major mailings during the year, and need volunteers to help fold, label, and stuff envelopes and help sort the pieces for mailing.  If you are interested in getting on our contact list for mailing assistance, please contact Eileen O'Neill at sturgisadmin@comcast.net or 508-362-6636.

Preschool Storytime
