Soft Spot for a Senior?
Last month four senior greyhounds returned to Greyhound Adoption Center, all due to different circumstances in their adoptive homes. We also took in a senior girl from another group. The
good news is that GAC is here for these dogs! We have provided veterinary treatment, and our kennel caretakers are lavishing attention on the dogs while they wait for their new homes.

Many of our adopters and volunteers avow that senior dogs are SPECIAL. Call or email us if you'd like to visit and see for yourself or learn details about any of the dogs. Remember we also have many other greyhounds at our rescue kennel. Go to our website to check them out: www.houndsavers.org. Now, meet ...

Big Sur faceBig Sur ... This big brindle boy is sweet as can be. He came back with fellow brindle boy Stilts. Big Sur was part of our big group of "California city" named dogs from a seasonal track closing in 2005. He turns nine in October.

Mandy begMandy turns nine later this year. Look at this expressive face! She is on some medication for pain issues in her front shoulder and neck. She came in from another group, and evidently has been in more than one home.  Mandy face

We're aiming to find Mandy her home for life!

Stilts

Stilts, as mentioned above, was adopted in 2005, and returned to GAC with Big Sur. He turns eight in August. Stilts had a leg injury upon his original arrival at GAC and benefited from the Fyvie Fund for greyhounds with track injuries. He still is adjusting to being back at our kennel. Stilts face

In Memoriam
Dreyfus
Dreyfus

Dreyfus came to GAC in the fall of 2000. He was in the classic dog name group which is how he got the kennel name of Dreyfus. He was a wonderful, sweet boy who joined our pack in October 2000. He joined Misty and Molly (adopted in Maryland) and Cleo from GAC. He was so easy going and so willing to do whatever was asked.  He would go with me when I would do an adoption placement.  He would hop up and sit next to the person wanting to adopt and that was all that was needed to show off how wonderful greyhounds are.  I always had to deal with the question of whether Dreyfus was up for adoption. NO WAY!  He was a great ambassador for GAC and greyhound rescue.  He moved with us and ended up in Austin, Texas, until he left us in February. His other GAC "brothers", Hammy, and Dooley (Raccoon) miss him, too.  For Tom and me he was the ultimate greyhound companion.  Thank you, GAC, for all you do.

Etienne-Harley

Harley
(GAC's Etienne)
Our second night with Harley went perfectly. We all slept peacefully through the night. (I put all the squeaky toys away for the night.) We took a walk to the park this morning. He walks so nice on a leash and ignores other dogs even the ones that bark or growl at us. I'm still working on getting some really good pictures but here is Harley this morning. Have a good weekend!

Stella
Just a note to let you know what a "DREAM" Stella-Bella is.  We think she is perfect. It's been one week now and she has not gone to the bathroom in the house, has not torn anything up including her toys and does not jump up on anyone, she doesn't even bark.  She loves to be right there with
everyone and loves her bed in the family room.  Everyone just loves her to pieces and believe me, she loves the attention! ... What a great companion for Mom. Thank you for making this dream come true for MOM and all of us!  I appreciate everything you have done to make this possible.

Warmly,
Kathy

A note from Stella'a GAC placement representative: Stella may have nibbled on a few things since her first week, but her family loves her
