If you were able to graduate from the Leadership Institute, and especially if someone else - an employer or sponsor - made this experience possible for you, please consider making a contribution and paying it forward to a future leader in need.

Meet the Valley Leadership New Board Members
Valley Leadership welcomed several new board members for the 2011-12 program year. Get to know your new board members each month:
Jenny Holsman Tetreault
ASU Alumni Association
Background: Originally from Vancouver, WA, Jenny is a proud graduate of Arizona State University (B.S.) and Syracuse University (J.D. and M.A.) and currently resides in Phoenix, AZ.
Jenny serves as the Executive Director for the ASU Alumni Association and Of Counsel at Struck, Wieneke and Love; she is also a faculty member at the Sandra Day O'Connor School of Law.
Jenny recently married Colin Tetreault, Senior Policy Advisor on Sustainability to Mayor Stanton.
Why you initially joined your Valley Leadership class: I initially joined Valley Leadership as a way to learn more about the community, as I wanted to determine where I could best invest my time and energy to advance Valley initiatives. Through participation in the program, though, I discovered a great Valley Leadership network that has allowed me to explore Arizona, discover critical issues that need advocates, and identify projects and programs that need a champion.
Why you joined the Board: I feel very invested in Valley Leadership and am passionate about the organizational mission. The opportunity to join the Board has allowed me a great opportunity to work in collaboration with an amazing VL Team to help advance our organizational priorities and create strategic opportunities for alumni engagement.
One big goal for the year as a Board member: Increase VL alumni participation through Alumni events including social and networking opportunities, Community Dialogue Series, Executive Leadership Skills Series, Tours, and the Marshall Fellows program.
How can VL alumni help you achieve that goal? We would love to connect all VL alumni back to the organization! Please make sure you keep your contact information up to date with the office [continue reading below for easy options to update your contact information!]. If you would like to volunteer on any of the programs listed above, or would like to serve as a Class Representative, please contact Jenny at jholsman@asu.edu or (480) 965-2086. Finally, please plan to join us at upcoming alumni events! |

Leadership Institute Program Day 5 Re-Cap: Infrastructure
by Chris Kotterman (Class 33)
VL 33 continued its sojourn through the details of the Valley's most influential institutions with Infrastructure Day on February 3. The day's venue won points for creativity and relevance, as the class met in the maintenance facility for Sky Harbor Airport's new SkyTrain and was treated to a tour of the train control room and new Bombardier train cars.
Class 33 learned how the Valley receives its lifeblood from the Central Arizona Project and also delved into the issues surrounding EPA regulation of power plants located on the Navajo Nation. Additionally, Class 33 is now extremely well-informed of the process by which Palo Verde nuclear plant is cooled and how man Total Dissolved Solids are permissible to be emitted from the plant at any given time.
We also heard from representatives of the City of Phoenix Aviation department, who offered outstanding information regarding the economic impact of Sky Harbor on the Valley. Finally, Corporation Commission Chair Gary Pierce informed the class of the difficulties of creating enough power generation capacity for the Valley of the Sun.
