NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN SACRAMENTO
7TH & H STREET
Mercy Housing California's proposed 7th and H Street Mixed Use development in Downtown Sacramento has received a preliminary recommendation for an allocation of 9% tax credits. When confirmed on September 22, the race to begin construction by March 1, 2011 will officially be on! The team for the 150 unit and 6000 square foot commercial building has been confidentially charging ahead all year long, thanks to the partnership between land owner/funder Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency and the future ground floor health clinic operator and service partner, The Effort, Inc.
AUBURN SENIOR APARTMENTS

PARTNERING FOR WELLNESS
Mercy Housing California wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks to our partners at Catholic Healthcare West (CHW), the Mercy Heart and Vascular Institute and Mercy General Hospital, for again providing cholesterol and blood pressure health screenings for residents, free of charge, at ten of our Sacramento senior, family and special needs properties this year.
Now in our third year of providing the screenings, this health and wellness collaboration between CHW and MHC will have served over 600 adults when the series concludes in November. Special thanks go to Joyce Higley, Director, Mercy Heart and Vascular Institute and Marilyn Gee, who organizes this health screening program, for their continued collaboration and support of these invaluable services for Mercy Housing residents. |

RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT: OVERCOMING OBSTACLES
Unsure, depressed, uncomfortable, and embarrassed were feelings that Maleni, a 17-year-old resident at an MHC property, had to deal with every day of her life. For as long as Maleni could remember, kids at schools and playgrounds constantly teased her about the way she looked and walked. Maleni was born with 12 fingers and 12 toes. For some, this condition may not appear to be a big challenge, but for Maleni it posed numerous emotional and physical challenges.
