Taiga

Greetings!

For those interested, I passed my old and heavily duct taped Gerbing jacket on to my brother having acquired a replacement at our Halloween Sale. He bought one of those beginner other brand 650's we don't talk about and needed gear. I still have the funky boots though - probably good for another 100K miles. I also scored some waterproof gloves at the sale so I'm ready for the monsoon that is supposed to be our upcoming winter.

Speaking of the Halloween Sale - several customers asked if we are in trouble because we have done a couple sale events recently. The answer is no. 2010 happens to be our most profitable year and we are nowhere near going out of business.

2010 has been a challenge however. Part of my job, as Sales Manager, is looking after bike inventory to ensure we have the right mix of bikes, the right number of each model, with the right option packages and colors, and on hand at the right time. You may recall we sold out of 2010 inventory quite early this year and BMW didn't produce enough product for us. Consequently I went looking for bikes at other dealers and through BMW to make up for the shortfall. Problem is I lost control of the timing part of the equation, and still have a little of that supplemental inventory to get rid of. Like any retailer, I'll have a "Sale" to move it - fact is, our 2010 bikes are on sale till they are gone. Come get one.

So, thanks to everyone who was concerned enough to call - and there were a lot of you. Please, RELAX, all is good at South Sound Motorcycles.

Notice the really cool Ural above?  It is called a Taiga which is a variant of the familiar Gear-Up 2 wheel drive machine. Ural sales have been pretty good so we figured to take a chance on having a Taiga on the floor, and wouldn't you know it some guy comes in and buys it. Included with the Taiga are the fairing, a big flashlight, a get yourself out of the mud rope winch, and a few other little goodies. Guess we'll go get another Taiga.

The current Ural Desert Camo paint scheme is replaced in 2011 with a much different Desert Camo paint job. Marty likes it. Think you will too.

It appears that Ural is working toward a custom paint ordering scheme for 2011 as well. Details will follow, but I'm told a customer can specify a color for their bike when they order it, and the bike will be available in roughly 90 days. Ural is a brand on the move, constantly refining the product, and we are happy to be affiliated with them. You might just consider a Ural 2WD for the upcoming snow season........

We still have some openings for Keith's presentation on the 13th. I left the content from last month, which is down below for you to refer to. Please call Katie to reserve your seat. Helps me to know how much food and beverage to have on hand for you.

July Bike Night

November 13th our guest speaker will be our own Keith Thye - here's a preview:

In 1963 two guys dropped out of college for a year and embarked on an eight month odyssey from Portland, Oregon to Pucon, Chile, which was about as far South as one could travel on anything resembling a decent road in those days.

The mode of travel were two 1958 BMW R50's and the style of travel was meager, since the entire trip was accomplished on $1,200 apiece. This was nearly 50 years ago, and the experiences and conditions that they experienced will have to be seen to be appreciated.

This is an adventure that you will be able to share with these two guys as they will be together presenting a slide show (yes, a true old fashioned slide show---just like they made back in 1963) at South Sound BMW on Saturday evening, November 13.

Many of you know Keith Thye as he is the President of Ride West BMW and South Sound BMW.  His partner on this trip was Dave Yaden, a lifelong Lake Oswego resident (outside of Portland, Oregon) and a well known figure in the  political landscape and educational circles in Oregon.

A book has been written about this journey and Dave and Keith will be available for book signings at the event and books will be available for purchase.

The presentation will begin at 7:00 PM in the South Sound showroom and, with an intermission, conclude around 10 PM.  Ticket prices are $12 and include hors d'oeuvres and refreshments.  Please join us for this exclusive engagement.

Reservations are required for all our presentations so we know how much food and beverage to have on hand. Please call Katie @ 253-922-2004.
