Would you believe I had writer's block - newsletter deadline approaching and nothing to pass along. Scary. Then a couple of things happened, as they always seem to, and we have content.
One of those things was a seriously unfortunate event one of our employees endured. A garage fire. The structure burned to the ground in short order despite a very fast response from the fire department. As with most fires a lot of personal belongings attached to memories of important life events went up in smoke. Biting their lips, the affected simply say they are glad the house didn't catch fire, and that they are alive - the most important thing.
Unfortunately among their belongings was a collection of motorcycles, some usable and others were projects in work. One bike had full coverage motorcycle insurance but the other nine bikes didn't have any insurance coverage and guess what they learned? Their homeowners policy does not cover the uninsured vehicles that melted to the floor in that fire.
Please, review your policy with Kristina if you maintain the minimum liability coverage and see what it will cost you for the right kind of protection. One of our people experienced an expensive life lesson - and I'm passing it along, at their request, in the hope it might help someone else.
Stephen Swap, who worked for us for a few years, ended his employment and is somewhere on the road with his Harley. If you had been working with Stephen and expected a call from him please reach out to either Wayne or Jason they will pick up the ball for you.
Stephen was our Husqvarna expert so I added the Husqvarna task to Jason Jones' workload. Being young and enthusiastic he got right with it. In fact he took our demo bikes out for familiarization and in the first ten minutes broke his foot. The bad news is he has a slightly messed up foot and gets all kinds of teasing from work mates and customers alike.
The good news is his heavy duty boots kept the injury from being much more severe. The other good news is he recommends the TXC250. Another life lesson - wear your stuff - and wear good stuff.
On an up note, if you are in the military, or discharged during the past 6 months, and have a craving for an S1000RR please know BMW provides the "Safety Package" of traction control and race ABS at no charge.
Even though this military promotion rules out the rebate check from BMW, South Sound Motorcycles will discount that amount off the MSRP. Further, with good credit there is excellent financing available on the S1000RR for all who qualify - not just our military members.
Our supply of S1000RR is getting smaller so don't dawdle and miss out on this opportunity.
Some more good news: The 2011 R1200RT bikes equipped with the radio option now have a way to connect audio devices like iPods or an iPhone and let you control the device with the BMW Radio Controls. You can, using a USB connector use a memory stick full of music in up to 9 selectable play lists. Finally, you can connect an external audio device having headphone output to the Aux In connection on the bike's radio. You can control volume, but cannot otherwise operate the device.
This option comes with the 2011 R1200RT equipped with the radio package and can be purchased for those of you owning a similarly equipped 2010 R1200RT.
