Galen Moves to New Campus
|
 Galen's move to the new campus at 11101 Roosevelt Boulevard is complete, with the new clinical simulation lab to open in the coming weeks. The new campus facility is 36,000 square feet, or roughly double the size of the old campus, and it features seven classrooms, science lab, computer lab and more.

JDRF Walk for the Cure is March 13 |
Once again, Galen will participate in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Walk for the Cure. This year's 5K walk is March 13 at Ft. DeSoto. This year's goal is $3500, and the student nurse association is helping plan and coordinate fund raising ideas, from t-shirts to a bake sale. To register, go to the JDRF website and click on "Register for a walk." Select Florida from the drop down menu, select the St. Petersburg Ft. DeSoto March 13th walk, and you will find the Galen team under "Participant Information."

Students Take Unique Approach to Project
|
Three Galen students decided to take a unique approach when sharing facts about pregnancy-induced hypertension. Aaron Nuccio, John See and Rolando Esparza dressed up in their respective roles as nurse, baby and mom.

Student Advisory Committee established
|
As of December 2009, Galen now has a Student Advisory Committee. The committee was established to facilitate better communication between students and administration, and to give students an official avenue for making suggestions and requests to the school. 'Student Tutor Bank' established |
Galen faculty have established a "Student Tutor Bank" to help students get assistance on their course work and nursing school experience. Students who seek assistance can contact Heather Brase at hbrase@galencollege.edu; students who are interested in being a tutor can also contact Ms. Brase.

Falco's "Nurse Jackie" on Showtime as 2009's top TV show for best
portrayal of nurses. Shows with the worst and most demeaning depictions of nursing
include ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" and Fox's "House." Read More.
U.S. Nurse Shortage to Worsen as Population Ages:
By 2025, the U.S.
will face a shortage of 260,000 registered nurses, according to analyst Peter
Buerhaus at the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. Nursing experts said
there are not enough nursing faculty to train all of the RNs the country needs,
so the U.S.
might have to rely on more foreign nurses. Read More.
