Greetings!

Welcome to The Pulse, Galen's official e-newsletter! Each quarter, we'll deliver Galen news and happenings right to your inbox, along with nursing news and more. We hope you enjoy it!
Galen Students Participate in History Exhibit
History Exhibit PhotoStudents at Galen College of Nursing's Louisville campus had the opportunity to serve the community, show the community who they are, and learn more about nursing and the role of nursing during World War II. Galen was invited to have an exhibit at Frazier International History Museum's World War II exhibit which began on October 10, 2009. Nursing students made a poster display with 1940s artifacts. The student nurses helped children select coloring pages, stickers, and post cards, and make and dress paper dolls as World War II nurses.

Galen Lights the Night

RN Class Selling Totes to Raise Grad Funds
The graduating RN class of January 2010  is raising money for the class caps, gowns and pins. They will be selling tote bags with nurses in mind. Every bag comes with an inspirational quote to remind Galen students of just how important they and all nurses are every day. Orders will be taken at the Zorn Campus every Monday from 4-10 p.m., and at the River Road Campus every Tuesday from 4-10. A photo and/or sample will be available soon. Contact Meagan Donald or Tara Cox to get more info or to set up a time to order.
LPN Students Collecting Toys for Charity
Year one, quarter four students are collecting as many toys as possible this holiday season to support local charities and get gifts into the hands of underprivileged children. New toys can be dropped off until Dec. 11 in designated boxes at both campuses (Zorn, 3rd floor) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Monday-Friday in the Zorn 4th floor reception area, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Charities included are: St. Joe's Orphanage, Kidz Club, Children of Marines, Children of Prisoners, Home of the Innocents and Center for Women and Families. For more info, contact Galen instructor Krista McKinney.

News in Brief
TV Commercial Shoot: On Monday, Dec. 7, a film crew will be at Galen to shoot footage for TV commercials and other uses. This will be an all-day shoot and will include both campuses. Galen asks that students wear neutral clothing on that day -- no t-shirts or sweatshirts with slogans or logos. Also, extras will be needed for certain parts of the shoot; any student interested in being an extra for shots that must be staged can contact Galen marketing manager Kevin Gibson at 410-6215 or at kgibson@galencollege.edu.

Lab Time:
The clinical learning lab in room 305 is open every Wednesday, 5-10 p.m., and every Friday, 1-5 p.m.

Wireless Internet: Wireless Internet access is available at the Zorn Ave campus for students using a laptop computer. To access the network, please go to the library for the network name and password. The wireless network is accessible on the second and third floors in the break room and the library.

Galen E-mail: To ensure the best communication between students and faculty, please sign up for the email account offered through Galen College of Nursing at http://mail.live.com. This will be the official means of communication between Galen and students. The naming protocol is: first name, a period, last name, @, nursing, period and galencollege.edu (example: nursing.student@nursing.galencollege.edu); students can then log in through the Galen website. If you are having problems with sign-in, contact jprice@galencollege.edu.
If you have story ideas for The Pulse, we would love to hear them. Simply e-mail the editor at kgibson@galencollege.edu. We'll have more nursing news for you next quarter.

Sincerely,
