Welcome to The Pulse, Galen's official e-newsletter. Each quarter, we'll deliver Galen news and happenings right to your inbox, along with nursing news and more. We hope you enjoy it!
The Three As
There are three important and closely related terms that are often used at colleges and universities.  The "Three As" are: accreditation, approval and articulation.

Accreditation: Colleges and universities are evaluated by an accrediting agency to inspect all aspects of the school.  Galen is nationally accredited by the Council on Occupational Education.  This agency verifies that Galen maintains their accrediting standards.

Approval: Certain agencies offer approval of a program.  Galen has approval not only by the Ohio Board of Career Colleges and Schools, but also by the Ohio Board of Nursing.

Articulation:  The decision to accept credits from another educational institution is made by the receiving institution and is considered on an individual course basis.  Galen has articulation agreements in place with several colleges and universities to facilitate the acceptance of credits earned at Galen towards advanced nursing degrees.  Galen currently has articulation agreements with Grand Canyon University and University of Phoenix.

Grand Canyon University visited campus this week to discuss continuing education opportunities. University of Phoenix will visit on November 11 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm.  To RSVP, or if you are unable to attend the sessions, please contact mbrosenne@galencollege.edu for details.
Teamwork brings graduates together
Goridan KnotOctober graduates met for a team building activity at the start of their final quarter.  Students joined hands and formed a "knot" known as a Gordian knot.  By communicating clearly and efficiently, the "knot" was slowly untangled by climbing over, under and between other students' arms.  The team building activity was a great way to start their final quarter.
Cullen's paper accepted for presentation
Emily Cullen, one of Galen's librarians, presented her paper Wanted, Teachtechmanagarian : Millennial Librarians Equip to Explore the Modern Job Market at the Midwest Chapter MLA meeting in Columbus on Sunday, October 4.   Cullen presented her findings and held a question and answer session.

Cullen's paper seeks to find a relationship between information seeking behaviors of the millennial librarian and the current library field's demand for multidisciplinary library professionals. The information seeking behaviors of millennials uniquely prepares them for the challenges of the new job market.
