Galen Students Set Goals for JDRF Walk
JDRF Walk to Cure
The Galen Walking Team has set a goal to raise $8,000 at the March 14  Fort DeSoto Park Walk to raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. A former Galen student suffered from diabetes and was active in JDRF, prompting annual participation in a JDRF walk. PN Program Director Bobbi Martin noted that 40 walkers raising $200 each are all that is needed to achieve this year's goal. Sign up here to participate. Students can also find links online for fund-raising tips and for online sponsor donations.
Faculty Chosen for NLN HITS Program
Faculty members Dr. Susan Garbutt and Bobbi Martin have been chosen for the National League for Nursing's Health Information Technology Scholars (HITS) program. The purpose of this highly competitive program is to support faculty in their endeavor to implement a technology-integrated project into the curriculum. Dr. Garbutt and Ms. Martin were selected based on their proposal to develop a virtual electronic medical record program to augment simulation in the clinical learning lab. As a result of this project, Galen students will be able to reference data and manage documentation before, during, and after various patient simulations."We are very proud of the accomplishments of Dr. Gabutt and Ms. Martin; this was a highly competitive process," Tracy A. Ortelli, MS, RN, CNE, Galen's Vice President of Academic Affairs, said. "Their success demonstrates their commitment to providing our students with an exceptional educational experience."
Galen Recognized for Accreditation Longevity
The Council on Occupational Education (COE) recognized Galen College of Nursing for completing 25 years of accredited status at the Council's Annual Meeting in St. Louis in November.

Nurses Voted Most Trusted: For the seventh consecutive year, nurses were voted the most trusted profession in America in Gallup's annual survey of professions for their honesty and ethical standards. Eighty-four percent of Americans believe nurses' honesty and ethical standards are either "high" or "very high."Since being included in the Gallup poll in 1999, nurses have received the highest ranking every year except in 2001, when fire fighters received top honors. Results were based on telephone interviews with more than 1,000 adults.
