Greetings!

Happy Holidays and welcome to The Pulse, Galen's official e-newsletter! Each quarter, we'll deliver Galen news and happenings right to your inbox, along with nursing news and more. We hope you enjoy it!
Student  Advisory Board Meeting a Success
The Student Advisory Committee (SAC) is comprised of students who are representatives of the entire student body at Galen.  Created by the Dean, these students work as ambassadors to their respective classes in regards to issues concerning the campus, the program, the administration or faculty, and/or the students.

The first meeting of the thirteen students of the Student Advisory Committee was held in November.

Members of SAC will meet quarterly with the Dean, discussing any issues or concerns students have at that time.  This is a forum for students to confidentially share their thoughts with the Dean and for the Dean to communicate directly with the students.
Galen Recognized for Accreditation Longevity
The Council on Occupational Education (COE) recognized Galen College of Nursing for completing 25 years of accredited status at the Council's Annual Meeting in St. Louis in November.

News in Brief

Ohio Board Visit: The Ohio Board of Nursing is conducting a site visit at Galen College of Nursing Cincinnati in January 2009.

Wireless Internet is Here:
Wireless Internet access is now available at Galen's campus for students using a laptop computer. To access the network, please go to the library for the network name and password. The wireless network is accessible on the entire campus.

Weather Policy Information: Galen will announce weather-related closings and delays on all local television and radio stations. Galen officially opens at 8:00 am, and any delay announced will be from the time Galen officially opens. For example: a one-hour delay means that classes begin at 9:00 am; a two-hour delay means classes begin at 10:00 am. If the campus is on a two-hour delay, clinicals are cancelled for that day.

Galen E-mail: To ensure the best communication between students and faculty, please sign up for the email account offered through Galen College of Nursing at http://mail.live.com. This will be the official means of communication between Galen and students. The naming protocol is: first name, a period, last name, @, nursing, period and galencollege.edu (example: nursing.student@nursing.galencollege.edu); students can then log in through the Galen website. If you are having problems with sign-in, contact Emily at ecullen@galencollege.edu or 513.475.3635.

Nurses Voted Most Trusted: For the seventh consecutive year, nurses were voted the most trusted profession in America in Gallup's annual survey of professions for their honesty and ethical standards. Eighty-four percent of Americans believe nurses' honesty and ethical standards are either "high" or "very high." Since being included in the Gallup poll in 1999, nurses have received the highest ranking every year except in 2001, when fire fighters received top honors. Results were based on telephone interviews with more than 1,000 adults.
