It's time to smile and pick up some great new tips on how to write even more persuasively than you do right now
Dear

It's September! Autumn is coming down the line as fast it can, but it's not quite here yet! So instead of bombarding you with pictures of golden autumn leaves and suchlike, my theme for this eNewsletter is 'September Sunshine!'

Because, while the recession is getting tougher and tougher, it's certainly not going to last forever. That's a ray of sunshine!

And while some things like advertising budgets are rapidly going out of fashion, there is one thing that will always be in demand - a cheerful word and a smile!

And, uh!, a really good copywriter!

I would say that, wouldn't I?

So here's a cheerful word and a smile from a really good copywriter.

Kindest regards

PS , there's a great article below on how you can write more persuasively than ever.  Have a quick read of it, I think you'll enjoy it. It's good stuff!
 - Have you ever wondered what makes a great leader?
The time has come to talk about
 you and great leadership abilities
The time has come to talk about really great leadership - and you!

Have you ever wondered what makes a great leader...

... and why are there so many managers in the world and so few leaders?

And what's the difference between a manager and a leader?

Many people have answered these questions in many different ways. But the answer that I like best is the one that goes like this:

The difference is threefold:

1/ Managers think incrementally, while leaders think radically.

2/ Managers do things right, while leaders do the right thing."

3/ Managers do things by the book and follow company policy, while leaders follow their own intuition.

Hey! Wait a minute! Hold on! If leaders simply follow their own intuition, why on earth do so many people blindly follow leaders?
Improve the persuasive powers of what you write... instantly!
Off with their heads - Artist: Lynnette Shelley
Many letter writers have a pretty good idea of what they want to say in their sales letters and know exactly what they want to say from the start.

But no matter what way you start and no matter how pleased you are with the way your draft sales letter is shaping up for you it's always wise to apply the 'edit from the top' formula to it before you finally sign off on your sales letter.

Because 'editing from the top' can also help you to:

  • Cut out unwanted paragraphs
  • Reduce the size of an overlong letter
  • Rearrange the order of your paragraphs so as to achieve maximum impact and efficiency.

Cutting out unwanted paragraphs and rearranging the order of things in your letter is part of the editing process.

And sometimes a simple little bit of paragraph rearranging can turn a mediocre sales letter into a very persuasive sales letter with a few quick strokes of the pen.

How many fundraising letters have you read in the past few years...

FundraisingHow many fundraising letters have you read in the past few years that contained a really persuasive appeal?

Awesome envelope - yes! Visually attractive layout - yes! Conveying a certain attitude or an ambiance using a designer-style type font and as few words as possible - yes! But making a persuasive appeal... probably not many at all?

That's because most fundraising letters that were sent out during the Celtic Tiger years were designed with pictures and colours to visually impress.

They kept the word-count to a minimum on the basis that modern readers don't do too much reading because they have lots of other far more interesting things to do.

And they avoided - avoided like the plague - anything that encouraged readers to "linger longer" reading an appeal letter in the unshaken belief that real money is given to real causes by real people without a real thought.

But those days are gone! Now, everywhere you look the customer is King, and royalty does not do "impressed". It is they who are the impressive ones and they expect to be treated as such.

As you do.

... here's a story to bring you the most important thing in the world... a smile!

A man was sentenced to a long prison term for embezzlement and was sent to jail in the middle of a desert. The man in the next cell turned out to be a former research scientist.

Before long, the embezzler was plotting his escape attempt. The scientist would have no part of it. Undeterred, the embezzler went ahead with his plans and with the help of other inmates he finally managed to escape.

For several days the escapee managed to elude his pursuers, but in time the desert heat and the lack of food and water won out. He gave himself up and was returned to his cell.

When he told the inmate next door about his ordeal, the fellow replied: "I'm not surprised. I tried it once and went through the same thing."

"You what?!" cried the embezzler. "Why didn't you tell me what it was like out there before I made my break!

"In my field," said the scientist, "we never announce negative results."

Enjoy!
