On the Saturday religion page of a local newspaper, there appeared a pastor's announcement of a special church meeting to be held the following Wednesday. When Wednesday came the only person to appear for the service was the church sexton, a huge man who weighed almost three hundred pounds.
The following Saturday, the sexton was astonished when he read in the religion page that a 'large and enthusiastic' congregation had attended the service. When he protected to the pastor that the report was a lie, the pastor said: 'It's not a lie. You are large and I am enthusiastic.

How to conquer doubt
The painter John Sargent once painted a panel of roses that was highly praised by critics. It was a small picture, but it approached perfection.
Although offered a high price for it on many occasions, Sargent steadfastly refused to sell it. He considered it his best work and he was proud of it.
Whenever he was deeply discouraged and doubtful of his abilities of an artist, he would look at those roses and say to himself, "I must never forget that I painted that." Then his confidence and ability would come back to him. Every time!
Make up your mind to be happy, learn to find pleasure in simple things.

A 'U'-Count' will instantly improve your written communications... every time! |
Aim for a consistently high number of 'you's' and yours' in your marketing letters.
If you find that there is a feast of 'YOUs' in some parts of your letter and a veritable famine of 'YOUs' in other parts of your letter it's always worth your while to go back and have another look at those paragraphs, or areas in your letter, where your 'U-Count' is low. See if you can edit these areas slightly and increase your 'U-Count' in those paragraphs. Let me give you a quick example of what I mean. In the following letter I've highlighted for you with a yellow marker all the 'YOUs' that the letter contains.

Hey! It's October already |
Greetings!
Welcome to the October 2007 edition of The Real McCoy, a lively and informative ezine newsletter which is aimed at keeping you up to the minute on the skills of Persuasive Marketing - what you say and how you write it.

On Vancouver Island, a long way off the beaten track, there is a tree with hundreds of shoes nailed to it.
The story goes that a young woman got so exhausted walking for miles along a mud track that she took off her shoes and nailed them to this tree.
In time, the idea caught on, and more and more people nailed their shoes to the tree.
But what caught my eye, and it was the bit that I really loved, was the 'marketing mind' that resulted in some creative genius climbing the tree and nailing a special message, with a deliberate misspelling in it, above the shoes for all to read. It said:
