It all adds up
A graduate attended a reunion of his old school and recognised a former classmate whom he hadn't seen for a long time. Just from looking at him, he could tell that his classmate had reached a certain level of success. His clothes, confidence, and the way he carried himself all spoke of his accomplishment. This was actually a bit of a surprise, because his classmate had not been the greatest of students.
The graduate approached his old class mate and after congratulating him on his success asked, "What's your secret? I remember that you never cared for books."
The classmate replied, "I always figured that if I bought something for 1 euro and sold it for 4 euro that I could make a nice 3 percent profit. And that was all the arithmetic I needed to know."

Creative Block
People sometimes ask me, 'What should you do when you get writer's block?'
And the answer is simple! 'Keep writing'.
Now I know that this may sound like a somewhat trite answer, but it's the answer that just about every professional writer the world over will give you to this question.
Believe me, you can write your way out of writer's block. If you get writer's block writing a direct mail letter - a handy little tip is to stop trying to write the first paragraph and concentrate your energies on writing a PS to your letter.
It's amazing how easy it is to write a PS. And before you know where you are you're flying! Well ... actually, you're writing.

Is this a hidden jewel of information for direct markeers in Ireland?
At a recent breakfast briefing at the Alexander Hotel, Dublin, hosted by An Post and the Irish Direct Marketing Association (IDMA), research commissioned by the national postal service was presented to business and industry representatives demonstrating that 86 per cent of direct mail in Ireland is now read by the recipient.
The survey also showed that 36 per cent is kept by consumers for future reference, and that households find money-off coupons, product samples and newsletters, the most useful items.
Approximately 7 in every 10 households receive addressed mail with some form of advertising/ promotional material. Of these, just over one quarter of the items received by these households have additional advertising/ promotional material in them.
Now here's where it gets interesting!
Our picture shows Stephen Stynes - Chairman IDMA, with John Keane - founding Chairman IDMA. at the An Post Breakfast.
