New Requirements for the Energy Star Program: NADCA Members Take Note

In the July-August 2008 issue of DucTales, NADCA announced its acceptance as a partner of the Energy Star Program, and encouraged members to submit an application to also become partners of the government-run initiative. In 2009, the Energy Star program announced new requirements that make it more difficult to be a part of this initiative. NADCA members that were previously accepted into Energy Star will not be able to continue as part of this program, unless they take additional measures.

Energy Star's new requirements took effect on June 1, 2009, and state that any service and product provider interested in being an Energy Star partner must submit the following:

  • 10 energy management benchmarks for client commercial buildings, which should be reported through the EPA's Portfolio Manager, an online energy management tracking tool.
  • Proof that an Energy Star was earned for at least one client commercial building in the last 12 months.

Any NADCA members that applied for an Energy Star partnership would need to meet these additional requirements in order to remain a partner in 2010. If you are a former or current Energy Star partner/NADCA member, and are planning to take these extra steps to remain a partner of the initiative, we want to hear from you! Contact NADCA Headquarters at (202) 737-2926 if you plan to meet these new requirements of the Energy Star program.

More information about Energy Star is available at www.energystar.gov, or by sending an e-mail to spp@energystar.gov.
