Does Your Company Provide Residential Services in New Jersey?

If So, You Must Register with the State's Division of Consumer Affairs by November 16

NADCA was recently contacted by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, Division of Consumer Affairs regarding a state law that affects a portion of our Association's members. The law states that anyone providing or selling home improvement services, with respect to residential properties in New Jersey, must be registered with the Division of Consumer Affairs. The only exceptions are companies that are specifically exempted within the statute and regulations.

The deadline for registering with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs is Monday, November 16.

The notice sent to NADCA from the Division of Consumer Affairs stated that "most of the air duct cleaning companies operating in New Jersey are still not registered with the Division even though their services fall directly within the definition of 'home improvement.'" NADCA was advised to reach out to members that may provide residential services in New Jersey, in order to inform them that they must register by November 16.

For information on registration requirements, please click this link to be taken to the Division Web site.

A full copy of the statute and regulations is available here, along with the letter sent to NADCA by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, Division of Consumer Affairs.
