Ergonomics: Have a Seat
|
|
by Timothy J.Caruso, PT, Cert. MDT
The scoop on seat selection is that it all
starts with one word: Ergonomics.
So you say you’re in the market for a new
operator chair—your old seat cushion is worn and
flat in the front, but the rear upholstery is like
new, as is the backrest. The cylinder doesn’t raise
and lower like it used to, and the casters are less
than smooth. It’s time to trade up! Do you know
what to look for in a new operator stool?
WHAT’S BEST FOR YOU
Comfort and function in the operatory is a
priceless commodity. Efficiency, effectiveness
and career longevity can be positively and
negatively impacted by operator seating. So
when it comes time to consider a chair, don’t
sell yourself short. If the decision falls to someone
else, it might be worthwhile to “split the
cost” with your employer and get what is best
for you.
Now that you have the prescription, have a
seat!

Evolution Chair
|
|
Body Intelligence
People are spending more and more time sitting.
Our bodies are not designed to sit for extended
periods.
As our core muscles have weakened many of us have
developed
poor posture and chronic back pain.
For years medical and fitness professionals have
used stability balls to strengthen and improve our
balance and posture. The Evolution
Chair successfully combines a stability
balls core health benefits with the movement and
versatility of a rolling chair.
While seated your spine naturally aligns to
optimum posture and your spinal stabilizer
muscles automatically engage to support your body.
These muscles are not typically used during passive
sitting. So as with starting any new physical activity
we recommend you gradually build up to using the
Evolution Chair all day. Please refer to our website for
the
usage guidelines and
exercises.
The
Evolution
Chair is widely recommended by medical
professionals and may be used in countless different
environments.

Dr. Tom Moonen, Orthodontist
North Vancouver, British Columbia
"Ever since we started to use evolution chairs, all of
us in the clinic noticed big improvement in
posture and back strength. At the end of the
day we were less tired and more
energetic. Our clinical staff can not imagine
reverting back to regular chairs. Our front desk staff
use Evolution Chairs as well, and likewise would not
swap back to regular chairs."
Dr. Moonen’s office, shown in photo, is one
of the original practices to incorporate the
Evolution Chair in dentistry; they have
exclusively utilized the Evolution Chair in their clinical
and administrative environments for over two
years.
