Welcome to the Creativedge Newsletter.
This month we focus on the subject of
"Play To Your Strengths''
What Is A Strength?
A 'strength' can be defined as a combination
of your natural talents, interests, skills and knowledge
that are consistently and productively applied to
achieve a desired result. It is your unique strengths
that are
most likely to propel your career to new heights.
Many people fail to reach the heights they're capable
of achieving because they never fully utilize their
natural gifts or they are completely unaware or fail to
realise the talents they have that could equip them to
excel in certain roles and tasks.
Realized or not, these talents may feel so natural
that you don't even realize how they make you unique
and special. Your talents are not "2nd nature", they
are your "1st nature"!
| Focus On Strengths Not Weaknesses |
 |
|
How much time do you invest in acquiring skills or
knowledge to overcome or 'improve' on some
perceived weaknessess, instead of identifying,
understanding and harnessing your own unique
talents? By concentrating on our weaknesses and
trying to improve them, believing that this is the key to
success, all we end up with is stronger
weaknesses, while our strengths lie dormant and
neglected.
|
| Play To Your Strengths |
 |
|
Our unique strengths create the platform from which
we can excel. Just think what you might achieve by
making the most of the natural abilities you have and
how much impact it would have on the satisfaction,
fulfilment in your life and career.
Whatever you set your mind to, you will be most
successful and feel most fulfilled when you craft your
role to 'play to your strengths' by using your
most dominant talents.
If you do not know yet what your natural talents are,
take some positive steps to start to find out.

| 5 Top Tips For Identifying Your Strengths |
 |
|
1. Feedback: Collect
feedback from a variety of people from within and
outside of the organization. By gathering information
from a variety of
people, you will develop a broader understanding of
yourself.
2. Look Inside: What things
are you consistently doing well at and which draw you
back time and time again? Note down how each one
makes you feel. Ask yoursef:
- Which specific activities did I find myself looking
forward to last week?
- Was there any time last week when I was truly in
my "zone" when time just flew by?
- What specific activities make me feel strong?
- What work would I hire myself to do?
3.
Identify Patterns: Create a table so that you make
sense of all the feedback you have been collecting.
Group similar examples to compare responses and
identify your common themes.
4. Speak To Others: We can learn so
much from observing people who excel at what they
do and even better, ask them how they do what they
do.
5. Engage Friends: Choose friends
who help you become your best. Meet regularly with
them, set goals and be accountable for progress.
Now you have identified your strengths, it is up to you
to put them into play.

| Final Words |
 |
|
So finally. ..
- Stop worrying about a weakness so that you can
spend more time thinking about how to refine a
strength.
- Be clear about your own unique talents and
develop skills that will enable you to use your talents -
the clearer you are, the more you can streamline and
strengthen your efforts.
