November highlights: What one school's seniors are taught that you should know, five new placements from New Orleans to Washington, a new assignment, a new Leadership Profile--and half-a-dozen ongoing assignments.
|
As you will see from the news below
of our five placements since last month's smorgasBoard, things have
been busy for us on the BoardWalk. The pervasive spirit of
Thanksgiving we experience regularly in our work reminded us of The Founder's Charge, an extraordinary memento given to each graduating senior of Atlanta Girls' School.
We were smitten by its power when we first encountered The Founder's Charge some three years ago, and we are pleased to share it with our friends now. Emily Ellison, the author, is a founder and trustee of AGS. Last year, we had the privilege of recruiting Emily as executive director of Literacy Action, where she continues to revel in the power of words.
The Founder's Charge
All life is school; therefore, be in attendance daily. Choose wisdom, generosity, and kindness as your teachers. Judge tenderly and be forgiving; everyone else is learning too. During the leaden hours of loss or failure, ask others for help and help those whose suffering is greater. During the bright moments of success or celebrity, say thank you and wield power with compassion and humility.
All life is a journey; therefore, pack lightly and travel broadly. Choose courage, integrity, and wonder as your companions. Along the way, unload yourselves of fears and hubris. Leave each corner of the world better than the way you found it. Keep your hearts soft and your minds open. Listen. Ask questions. Be bold. And wed yourselves to joy.
