Successful Successions: A BoardWalk Guide
Turnover among board and senior staff members is a big issue for nonprofits, and it's about to become even bigger as the competition for leaders and board members intensifies.

Three
exciting placements
for BoardWalk clients
Three prominent clients--one
primarily regional in reach, one primarily national and one truly
global--announced new executives recently.
For two of our placements,
both CFOs, this move marks their first full-time employment in the nonprofit sector; the third placement, a foundation president, has made the sector his focus for many years.

David Weitnauer
President R. Howard Dobbs, Jr. Foundation
The R. Howard Dobbs Foundation, Inc., recently named David Weitnauer as its President. Established by Mr. Dobbs in 1959, the Foundation focuses its giving in three areas:supporting educational opportunities, promoting environmental stewardship, and improving access to health services.

Grantmaking in the areas of the environment and healthcare will be new for me, but I can't imagine a better mix." Weitnauer recently completed his tenure as the Executive Director of The Rockdale Foundation, an Atlanta-based charitable foundation.

Elsewhere on the BoardWalk...
Last week, BoardWalk's Kim Anderson was honored by the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys with the Barbara A. Harris Award for Community Service. The Harris award honors those "who have been practicing at least ten years, whose service to the community extends beyond the practice of law, and who has had a significant impact on the social, political and economic equality of minorities and women. The recipient of this award shall have contributed substantially to programs that uplift and empower the community." Congratulations, Kim! .............................................................................................................................. In May, Sam Pettway addressed the annual meeting of Washington State Nonprofits, where his topic was succession management (a talk that gave rise to the piece at the top of this issue of smorgasBoard). In early June, he spoke on board governance at the annual meeting for NAADA, a national association of alumni and administrators of the nation's land-grant universities. Later in June, he addressed the inaugural class at the Executive Leadership Program for Nonprofit Organizations, sponsored jointly by Emory's Goizueta Business School, Georgia State's Andrew Young School of Policy Studies, and the Georgia Center for Nonprofits. |
