 EHC #567
 Insights for the Professionally Curious
December 12, 2008
One of my more difficult weekly tasks is to decide what information to leave OUT of this edition of the EHC. It's not that I don't love you, just that the folks who are paying for the Special Edition deserve to get more ... even if that incredible investment only averages 75 cents an issue! I apologize for the necessary surgery ... and I hope you will eventually decide that your business is worth forty bucks a year!
Good Morning!

The travel for the year is done, I (barely) re-qualified for my Platinum status with Northwest (got to love those free upgrades!) and now we settle in to ride out the holidays. I have this delusion that I will use the downtime to finally get my office squared away ... but then I lie down until that idea passes.

It is far more likely that the clutter will persist and I will instead opt to spend my time working on A Place of Hospitality ... interrupted here and there by a Christmas party. I hope you find the work you are doing to be as compelling, a notion that prompted this week's minor rant.

Enjoy the season, buy those white lights while you can (they will not re-stock the shelves until next year) and try to get some sleep. You will not have the luxury of coasting through January.

Classic Holiday Idea #2
It's A Wrap!

Each year, my friends Peter and David Troutman, owners of the Scargo Cafe on Cape Cod, do something that I think is really cool. They supply rolls and rolls of wrapping paper, tags, ribbon, tape, scissors, and anything else their guests might need in order to wrap their holiday gifts.

In their mailing to their e-mail list, they point out that it is a great place to get away from prying eyes, relax, and enjoy the true spirit of the holidays in a friendly and relaxing place. The encourage guests to bring in their gifts to wrap ... and to bring a friend! Best of all, this service is free.

It is the Troutmans' way of saying Happy Holidays from Scargo Cafe. How could you use an idea like this to pick up some points with your guests? There is still time to implement ... if you are willing to do the work!
Becoming A Place of Hospitality™
Rethinking Restaurants

Assume for a moment that you are the owner of an independent restaurant. Perhaps you are about to open and need direction or you might already be operating and finding the business to be more of a struggle than you expected.

In either case, you have learned of A Place of Hospitality through our lead generation process and attended a free introductory meeting to learn more about how it works. You are amazed by how extensive it is, surprised that the fee is so much less than you expected and you have decided that you want to become part of it.

Before we accept your restaurant into the program, you and all your key partners must first "qualify" the company by completing the Hospitality Foundation Program, a week-long orientation and training.

This is very different from anything you ever attended before because it does not teach content. You learn how the System works, of course, but the primary purpose of the Hospitality Foundation Program is to introduce principles which will lead you to individual insights -- those "Aha" moments that result in lasting personal change.
