The 2012 Martha's Vineyard International Film Festival (MVIFF) is set for September 6-9! Combining the laidback beach style of the island of Martha's Vineyard with the buzz and excitement of a festival celebrating films from across the globe, the MVIFF is an amazing experience not to be missed! Experience four days filled with the best feature and short films from top-notch festivals such as Sundance, Berlin and Cannes. Also enjoy great evening events, provocative forums and live world music! The recurring theme of the annual MVIFF is "Other Places," encouraging attendees to think broadly (about how huge the world of film is) and deeply (about the universal concerns and desires that unite all people). About 90% of all film selections are non-US productions, helping to fulfill the festival mission of promoting cross-cultural understanding through film.

| |  Learn about the work of stencil artists who traveled from town to town taking commissions to decorate building interiors! Historic Deerfield offers a Stencil Art History Workshop from noon to 4:30 p.m. on September 8-9, 15-16, 22- 23, 29-30. Drop in anytime! Explore the art of stenciling and make a beautiful and unique stenciled artwork to take home. Also visit "Into the Woods: Crafting Early American Furniture" to see painted and stenciled furniture for inspiration! Included with general admission.

Warm September days are great for experiencing culture out-of-doors! New England Wild Flower Society's Garden in the Woods is a living exhibit of native New England flora, with more than 100 rare and endangered species. Further west in Boylston, Tower Hill Botanic Garden is always in bloom. For birdwatching and learning about woodland and wetland habitats, visit Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary in Natick. Plymouth County

Tours of The Daniel Webster Estate & Heritage Center in Marshfield will be held Thursdays in September from 1 to 4 p.m. Enjoy an afternoon at this present Queen Anne-style home, described as "an English country estate", completed in 1880 on the grounds of the former 1800-acre farm of Daniel Webster: farmer, fisherman, hunter, statesman, orator, lawyer, U.S. Senator and Secretary of State. Designed by then leading Boston architect William Gibbons Preston, the house underwent a 10-year restoration and was chosen as home to the Pilgrim Hall Museum's Designer Show House in the spring of 2005. Free admission, but donations are accepted.

The Berkshires
| |  Launched in 1999, the Williamstown Film Festival has screened premieres of nearly 400 films, welcomed as many visiting artists, and excited audiences with provocative Q&As and seminars. Honored guests have included Alec Baldwin, Patricia Clarkson, Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, Campbell Scott, Brian Dennehy, and Sigourney Weaver. The Christopher and Dana Reeve Award is given to each year's top short, determined by audience vote. WFF's 14th season will run October 17 through 21. Known as "New England's Most Beautiful Craft Fair," the event features more than 180 juried exhibitors from 16 states displaying and selling crafts of all media in the picturesque setting of the historic village of Old Deerfield. Highlights include a free museum tour, craft displays & demonstrations, music, food court and specialty food sampling. Admission is $7 adults, children under 12 are $1. The esteemed Harlem Gospel Choir comes to Holyoke's Log Cabin Banquet & Meeting House on September 11 & 12 for special lunchtime performances! The Choir has performed for President Obama, Nelson Mandela, British royalty, two popes and Sir Paul McCartney, among others. They have been featured on several television shows, including "The Today Show," "Good Morning America," and "Top Chef, New York." The family style lunch menu includes slow roasted turkey, focaccia haddock, vegetables, salad, potatoes and dessert.

The annual Northampton Chalk Art Festival is back on Friday, September 14th! Part of the city's monthly "Arts Night Out," select artists will render their work in chalk on 5'x5' cement canvases located throughout downtown Northampton. The public will be encouraged to watch the chalk art pieces develop during the day and then view completed drawings in the evening while enjoying Northampton's monthly gallery walk from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. Sponsored by the Northampton Business Improvement District, Chartpak Inc. and Peoples Bank.

The Harvard Shaker Village House Tour on Saturday, September 15th is a once-in-a-lifetime event! The Harvard Shaker Village closed in 1918, and since that time, the village buildings have been privately owned. But the doors will be opened for one day, giving visitors a unique opportunity to step inside the world of the Harvard Shakers, including visits to the Holy Hill of Zion and the Shaker "Lollipop" cemetery, and the Harvard Historical Society Meeting House. Tickets are limited for this event presented by the Harvard Historical Society.
