| |  The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams kicks off its "Oh Canada" exhibit on May 27th! The largest survey of contemporary Canadian art ever produced outside Canada, "Oh Canada" features over 100 works by 60+ artists who hail from every province and nearly every territory in the country, spanning multiple generations. MASS MoCA's curator Denise Markonish spent the last three years crisscrossing Canada to view hundreds of exhibitions in museums and galleries and visit over 400 artists' studios. Admired by Norman Rockwell, Howard Pyle's exacting working methods resulted in the creation of artworks of singular beauty and refinement with innovative compositional structures. His extraordinary skill was strengthened by his conviction that illustration was an act of self-revelation. This exhibition is the first comprehensive, critical assessment of the influential artist who is often referred to as the grandfather of American illustration.
