Counseling Notes
Final Exams - The first semester final exams will be administered from Tuesday, Jan. 19th to Friday, Jan. 22nd. The shortened-day finals schedule follows a Monday holiday. Now is the time for students to begin preparing for these important two-hour exams! The key to successful performance on finals is planning ahead. Students need plenty of sleep, nutritious meals, and a study schedule that allows time to review for each class.
Report Cards - First semester report cards will be mailed home on Friday, Jan. 29th.
Transcripts - Most private colleges require transcripts at the end of the first semester. This is called the MID-YEAR SCHOOL REPORT. Seniors should order their transcripts on Naviance and bring in $3 per transcript to the counseling office. UC and CSU campuses DO NOT require mid-year reports or transcripts at this time.
2010-2011 Class Scheduling - Counselors will be going into classes at the beginning of second semester to discuss courses for next year. Firm decisions regarding course choices, will be made during February. Please be aware that your student will be bringing home information before the first week of February regarding courses for next year. IMPORTANT DATES FOR SOPHOMORES
On the mornings of Feb. 2nd and 3rd we will be administering the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). Passing both the Language Arts and Math sections of the CAHSEE is a requirement for high school graduation.
ALL SOPHOMORES ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE CAHSEE THIS FEBRUARY. THE TEST WILL START AT THE BEGINNING OF FIRST PERIOD EACH DAY. THE TEST WILL START AT 8:00 ON TUESDAY AND AT 8:35 ON WEDNESDAY.
Students will take the test in the small gym and should report there on time each day of the test.

A Look at Your Dollars At Work: Peer Tutoring
Acalanes PARENTS' CLUB DONATIONS directly help students! APC donations are hard at work in our Peer Tutoring(PT) Department. Peer Tutoring provides a supportive atmosphere for learning that is available to all students at Acalanes. The program is designed to meet individual needs - for all grade levels serving AP and honors students, students in intervention, special ed and regular classes. Over 5,900 student tutoring sessions were logged last year alone! We are fortunate to have such dedicated Co-Directors fostering PT as an integral part of the effort to make Acalanes High School a place where everyone can succeed.
For Finals week next week, Peer Tutoring will be open from 12:30 to 3:30 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Students are encouraged to come in for last minute help. They can also come with a study group and work with a tutor. Peer Tutoring is ready to help any way it can!!
"Peer Tutoring provides a welcoming place to seek help, a quiet place to study or do homework, or a place to just stop to chat, for a very diverse cross-section of the Acalanes student body" ~ Mary McCosker & Fran Taylor, Peer Tutoring Co-Directors
Recycle AND Raise Money At the Same Time
Did you get a new phone or iPod over the holidays? Did you go through ink cartridges finishing that report for history? Don't throw them away - recycle them!! The collection bin clearly marked and accessible during normal school hours, is just inside the main office. You can drop off your recyclable cell phones, ink cartridges, iPods or other Mp3 players and laptops whenever it's convenient for you. Periodically, our school will mail the items collected at our school to the eScrip Recycling offices. eScrip Recycling will then deposit funds electronically in our account. How easy is this!
Update Expired Debit/Credit Cards
eScrip - What an easy way to make a donation to Acalanes. Did you know that every time you get a new or updated (due to loss, theft, or date expiration) credit or debit card you need to go to www.eScrip.com and update your information. It is simple and fast. Unfortunately we have over 200 eScrip members that have expired cards. All the holiday purchases at Macy's, Lunardi's and Diablo Foods to name a few merchants will not pass on their donations because that card that was used is expired.
