Budget Deficit Looms/Awaiting the January Gov's Proposed Budget '10-11
While we are thankful that Measure G passed, the Legislative Team is watching our state budget situation for the next news from Sacramento. On Nov. 18th, the Legislative Analyst's Office forecasted a $20.7 billion deficit in the state budget for 2010-11. Over 70% of the AUHSD's budget is from the state. The next step in the budget development process for school districts is the Governor's Proposed Budget in early January. Stay tuned. For more info on how this affects our high school and our District, go to this link. Meanwhile the Legislative Team is planning "Advocacy Day", our annual bus trip to Sacramento to be held on Wednesday, Feb. 17th. Save the date! Counseling Notes
Progress Reports: The second quarter progress reports will be mailed home Friday, December 11th. Please note that teachers are encouraged to send progress reports for other than failing students, but will always notify parents if students are earning a grade lower than a C- in any given course.
Seniors: Counselors are continuing to meet with seniors to monitor graduation status, progress in their courses, and plans for next year. We are writing college letters of recommendation as fast as we possibly can. In most cases, college applications should be completed before the winter break.
Sophomores and Juniors: PSAT results will be mailed to the Counseling Office sometime in December. There will be a notice in the Daily Bulletin when the results are available. Students who took the PSAT in October will be able to pick up their scores as well as their PSAT question booklet. By reviewing questions and answers on the PSAT, students can begin to prepare for the upcoming SAT tests.
Transcripts: Most private colleges require that a transcript be submitted with the application as part of the college application process (showing grades through the end of the junior year). Private colleges also request that students send Mid-Year Reports. Mid-year reports and accompanying transcripts (printed after semester grades are posted) can also be ordered now. Please order the transcripts through Naviance. The fee for transcripts is $3.00 each.
California Public Colleges: UC and CSU campuses do not want a transcript at this time unless they specifically request one from your student. These institutions base their admissions decisions on the "self-reported" grade information in the application.

College and Career Center
Now that the deadlines for our state college and universities have passed, seniors need to concentrate on private or out of state school applications. Although my scheduled workshops have ended, I am still here to help seniors complete their applications.
Our Scholarship list will expand between now and spring and I encourage your students to check out new opportunities in the C&CC Scholarship book. These programs are also announced in the bulletin.

Contra Costa Library Hours Shortened During Winter Break
Due to County budget cuts and holidays, all Contra Costa County Library locations will be closed from Wednesday, Dec. 23rd through Sunday, Dec. 27th and from Thursday, Dec. 31st through Sunday, Jan. 3rd.
Due dates for all items will be extended so that no materials will need to be returned between Saturday, Dec. 19th and Monday, Jan. 4th. During the closure, all book drops will be closed.
The Contra Costa County Library website ( ccclib.org) will remain open during the closures so that customers can continue to access online services such as downloadable audiobooks, eBooks, and electronic articles and will be able to place holds.
All locations will reopen with regular hours on Monday, Jan. 4th. Due to the extended closure, longer periods of processing time are anticipated that may affect the length of time it takes to check items in and to fill holds. Consult the library locations and hours page for further information about your local community library. _________________________________________________________
