Measure G
Is Everybody Ready to Vote?

Voter registration closes on October 19th. Make sure everyone in your household who is eligible to vote is registered - and, just in case you moved recently - make sure you are registered at your current address...You can start the process right now at http://www.SOS.ca.gov/elections/votereg1.html.

Registration is important because Measure G is on the November 3rd ballot.

Measure G will provide the district with a reliable source of local funds that cannot be disrupted or seized by the state. Measure G renews and continues the Acalanes Union High School District's existing parcel tax and does not increase the tax rate you now pay. Measure G funds core and elective academic programming. All expenditures will be audited and monitored by an Independent Citizens' Oversight Committee. Senior citizens will be offered a complete exemption.

No arguments were filed against Measure G - but every vote - especially yours - it critical since Measure G must win with a two-thirds majority

Counseling Notes

PSAT:
The PSAT will be given on October 17, 2009 at 8:00 am at Acalanes High School.  Register online, beginning September 21st through October 11th on the AHS Web Store. The cost is $24.50. Student Study Guides are available in the Counseling Office.

The PSAT measures critical reading, math problem-solving (including Algebra and Geometry), and writing skills. It is a practice test for the SAT Reasoning test. Juniors planning to attend a four year college should take the PSAT.  Sophomores who have completed Geometry may consider taking the test.

Room assignments are posted on the Counseling Office window the Friday prior to the test.  Students taking the PSAT should plan to report to their assigned rooms at 8:00 the morning of the test with a photo ID, two sharpened #2 pencils, and a calculator.

Click here for the AHS Webstore: http://acalaneshs.revtrak.net/tek9.asp

Seniors:  Counselors visited Government/Economics classes in September to discuss the importance of senior courses, graduation status, and the college application process.  During early October counselors will continue to meet individually with each senior.  These meetings will focus on graduation status, requirements, and post-graduate plans.

Transcripts:  At the time of application, students do not send a transcript to UC or CSU campuses. Transcripts will be requested later.  Private schools and out-of-state public schools request a transcript be sent with the application materials.  The transcript fee is $3.00 per transcript.
Request a Transcript
1.  Request all transcripts through Naviance Family Connection
2.  Print out the Transcript Status page
3.  Bring the following to the Counseling Office:
Transcript Status page
$3.00 per transcript
Stamped, addressed envelopes for all schools NOT on the Common Application (transcripts for schools on the Common Application will be sent electronically) - do not fill in a return address
*  When you come to the Counseling Office you must know which schools are on the Common Application (find out at www.commonapp.org)

Letters of Recommendation:  Most private colleges require letters of recommendation from one or two teachers and from a counselor (sometimes called a School Report).  Students should request letters from their teachers well in advance of their application deadlines.  Students requesting a letter from his/her counselor need to complete the Student Statement, Parent Statement, and Resume on Naviance Family Connection.
The deadline for the counselors is October 1st for Early Action and November 1st for Regular Decision.

College and Career Center

Students may now send the CSU application to the campuses of their choice.
It is important to apply broadly. Applicants also need to send official score reports.  Students who tested on Sat., Oct 10 may still send four free reports to colleges up to one week after the test date.  All SAT reports are comprehensive.
The application workshop on Wed., Oct 13 will be on the UC Application.

Financial Aid Seminar: Tuesday, Oct. 27  7:00-8:00 PM   Little Theater

FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
Greetings from Acalanes School Nurse Dvora Citron:

Flu Update:

H1N1 Flu Vaccine
The first doses of H1N1 (swine) flu vaccine have arrived in Contra Costa and will be distributed through previously scheduled school-based clinics.
Many more doses will be available by the end of October and will be distributed to providers throughout Contra Costa.

Contra Costa County expects to receive enough vaccine for all those who want the vaccine.
The best place to get H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccine is from your health care provider.  Call ahead of time to see if they are offering either vaccine. If more H1N1 vaccine becomes available, it may be given at CC County scheduled flu clinics
