Class of 2012
First of all, we want to thank you for
coming out this past Monday, braving the elements, for our Parent Meeting. As
it was said many times we could not do what we do without your support.
And we thank you.
To reiterate a column we put in last
spring, here is just a brief overview of why we raise funds.
1. Our class is responsible for the funding of many milestone
events for our students such as the Junior Prom, Senior Ball, Senior Breakfast
and the Senior Time of Reflection (previously known as the Baccalaureate -
nobody could spell it - we had to change it). In an effort to make sure
that everyone has the opportunity to attend these events, we raise money to
offset prices and help ensure everyone's attendance should they want to go.
2. Part of our school-based fundraising includes football
concessions, basketball concessions, and the sale of freshman homecoming
t-shirts. We also try to have a parent-based fundraiser of some sort a
year. Last year we hosted a very successful Wine Thieves event. This year
remains to be seen.
3. We are absolutely sympathetic with the state of the
economy these days, which is why we have limited these fundraisers. Between
giving an hour or two to run a concession stand, donating $15.00 for a pizza,
or a case of water to sell at concessions, helping during homecoming week
decorating halls, or purchasing a hand-designed homecoming shirt, we hope that
we have given people numerous, rather painless ways to give.
4. Our next
fundraiser is approaching quickly. More information will
follow to those who signed up to give of their time or donate a food item to our
football concessions, Friday, October 2 vs. Las Lomas.
If volunteering is not an option, we encourage you to attend this game and
support our efforts by purchasing a dinner, water, or snack.
As always, we, your
liaisons for the class of 2012, thank you for making our job so easy.

Class of 2011
We are staffing and donating for the home Football game this weekend 9/25. We have a few things we still need: 6 large cans of hot chocolate (to mix with water) 6 cans of whipped cream 2 dozen brownies (individually wrapped) Large box of Skittles Large box of Starburst Large box of M&Ms Large box of Snickers Email: megoreid@comcast.net for donations. Thanks to all of you who are already donating and working that night! Parent Meeting wrap up:Thanks to those who donated - over $500 raised in the "pass the hat" game. We
are close to $20,000 raised for our class. Our goal is $25,000-$30,000.
Many people have asked how the money gets spent. We expect the
following expenses: Junior Prom - $23,000-$25,000 Senior Breakfast - $500-$900 Graduation Ceremony - $1800 Senior Ball - $42,000-$45,000 Day of Reflection - $1000 As
you can see, the costs add up to between $68,300-$73,700. Students
purchase tickets to attend both the Junior Prom and Senior Ball. Our
class fund offsets the costs so that the ticket prices can remain as
low as possible for these events. If you have any questions or
suggestions, let us know! Thanks, Your Liaisons _________________________________________________________________________ Questions? Contact your class liaisons: Helen Bazell at hbazell@comcast.netGrace Paolini at jaghome629@aol.comMeg Reid at megoreid@comcast.net

Legislative News
We
are very fortunate to live in a community with top quality schools, but
once again, our schools are challenged by still more budget cuts, and
the future looks like it will bring further reductions to our
educational program. Concerned parents and community members have an
opportunity to hear experts explain why our schools do not have enough
money and, more importantly, what we can do about it.
On
Tuesday, September 29 from 7 to 9 p.m., the League of Women Voters and
the Contra Costa County Office of Education are sponsoring a
presentation on "Improving Funding for Public Schools." Speakers
include Dr. Joe Ovick, County Superintendent of Schools, Nancy Vandell,
Education Commissioner, California State PTA, Craig Cheslog, Director
for Assembly Member Tom Torlakson, and Eric Heins, Region One Director,
California Teachers Association, in a panel discussion of how the state
determines the amount of money allocated to each school, the effects of
recent budget cuts on children, and, most importantly, grassroots
movements to solve the budget crisis. The panel discussion will be
followed by a question and answer period for you to ask your questions.
The event will be held at the County Office of Education, 77 Santa
Barbara Road, Pleasant Hill.
If you would like to find out more
about the big picture of school funding and related issues that impact
our school district, please sign up for the e-news Newsletter: GET
SMART On Education. The quarterly newsletter provided by the Las
Trampas Creek Council of PTAs Legislation Committee provides parents
and the community with information about what is happening in
Sacramento regarding school funding and related issues that impact our
