E-Filing Portal Down for Enhancement Updates August 17 at 6 p.m.

I shared in my last newsletter that changes are coming to the efiling portal, www.myflcourtaccess.com. The portal will be down from 6 p.m. EDT, Friday, August 17, through 6 a.m. EDT, Monday, August 20, to implement these changes.  While several enhancements will be made to the portal over that weekend, the most significant one will be how you enter the case number for filing; now, regardless of which county you are filing in, you will enter the case number in exactly the same format.

Please visit my website at www.clerk.leon.fl.us (Online Services|Electronic Services|E-file) to learn more. Located under Instructions on the E-file page, you will find a memo titled "Changes to Entering a Case Number on the Portal" that details this important change. If you need to file something over the weekend while the portal is down, please keep in mind that I have a drop off box on the Calhoun Street side of the courthouse, where you can date and time-stamp your filings and drop them in for processing.  For more information on the drop box, click here.

Service by Email Mandatory as of September 1, 2012

The Florida Supreme Court issued an opinion addressing mandatory email service with an effective date of September 1, 2012 for civil, probate, small claims, and family law divisions of the trial courts, as well as for all appellate cases. Email service in criminal, traffic and juvenile matters is not mandatory until October 1, 2013. The Florida Bar is providing this educational document on the mandatory e-mail service requirements.  In the coming weeks you'll be able to find this document on our website as well.

We are also adding an "E-Serve" button below the "E-file" on the main page which will take you to the two Florida Supreme Court opinions, the Florida Bar educational document above, and a link to our judicial website to sign up for access and be put on the attorney email repository, which we discuss below.

Electronic Attorney Contact Repository

I shared our plans for an email repository with you in my last newsletter, and we have continued with those efforts:

  • Leon County's judicial website, http://judicial.clerk.leon.fl.us/, now has a left-hand panel that allows attorneys to register for access to this subscription site, and to provide us email addresses, by clicking on Attorney Sign-Up Page. This replaces the previous paper process of submitting a written application to us for access to the site.
  • The judicial website now also permits attorneys to update their profiles by editing addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. This function is accessed on the Attorney tab, My Profile - Editable.
  • Under the Attorney tab on the judicial website, attorneys can access the repository list as it grows by clicking E-mail Addresses.
  • We have provided on our website (under Online Services|Forms|Court Forms|General Court Forms) a Designation of Email Address form so that you can meet the requirements of Rule 2.516.

Please take time to review these developments and  let me know what you think. As we progress further, I will keep you posted.
