Preparing Your Customers for the Flu Season
As summer comes to a close, facility owners, managers and building service contractors need to prepare for the upcoming flu season. Keeping a building's occupants healthy helps businesses remain productive and profitable.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and other resources have outlined several steps to slow the spread of influenza and help keep a facility's occupants healthy.
1. Know the difference between cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing. ·Cleaning removes germs, dirt and impurities from surfaces or objects. ·Disinfecting kills germs on surfaces or objects. ·Sanitizing lowers the number of germs on surfaces and objects that are touched often. 2. Clean and sanitize (or disinfect) surfaces and objects that are touched often. Typically this means sanitizing surfaces and objects such as desks, countertops, doorknobs, door push plates, computer keyboards, hands-on learning items, faucet handles and phones on a daily basis. If desired, this could mean daily efforts to disinfect these touch points.
3. Perform routine cleaning and disinfecting. It's important to match your cleaning and disinfecting activities to the types of germs you want to remove or kill. Flu viruses are relatively fragile, so standard cleaning and disinfecting practices are sufficient to remove or kill them.
4. Clean and disinfect correctly. Always follow label directions on cleaning products and disinfectants, paying close attention to dilution and dwell time instructions. Many chemicals are activated by water--improper dilution leaves the active ingredient inert. Leaving a disinfectant on a surface for the appropriate amount of time (dwell time) is critical to kill bacteria. Many products require up to 10 minutes dwell time to disinfect.
5. Provide accurate training to janitorial staff on product usage and effective cleaning methods. Training staff on necessary dwell times, proper dilution techniques and effective tools-such as using microfiber cloths vs. cotton cloths to avoid quat binding-is critical to successfully minimizing the impact of the flu season.
6. Handwashing. Consistent, thorough handwashing by occupants and janitorial staff is still one of the best measures against the flu. Installing automatic soap and towel dispensers can further the effectiveness of handwashing. |

Windsor Chariot iScrub 22 SP |
| |
|
Did you know Windsor now has a Chariot iScrub 22 SP with 22-inch counter-roating brushes? The new machine is small enough to maneuver in applications where a traditional scrubber cannot fit.
The machine's cylindrical scrubbers provide up to nine times more downward pressure than traditional disc or pad floor scrubbers. This allows it to generate more consistent cleaning results by evenly distributing downward pressure along the entire contact area of the brush.
The Chariot iScrub 22 SP has an integrated wet pre-sweep and debris hopper that can save up to 40% of the overall cleaning time and labor costs by eliminating the need for pre-sweeping with a separate piece of equipment.
