Happy Sailings!

Let the Sun Shine In
An ensign on sea duty for the first time overheard a recruit say he was going downstairs. "Listen, sailor," he snarled, "Downstairs is below, that side is starboard, that's aft and that's portside. If I ever hear you say one more civilian word like "downstairs" again I'll throw you through that little round window over there!"

Lure of the Sea

Sea Fever - I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied"
~John Masefield~

Nourish Your Soul
Build Your Sand Castle
"You don't have to Sail to the middle of the ocean to find your center"

If you love the sea and all that it conjures up in your memories and imagination, the sea will come to you. We all crave summers at the beach when the days were long and there were no schedules to keep. The sand was warm and the sea an endless blue. A time to breathe in the salt air and let your cares go. Summer is more of an attitude than a season. The beach is more of an emotional destination than a location. You have it within you-make your home your sandcastle and allow it to be the place that centers you. Let it have the feel and smell of the beach. Live in it, laugh in it and love building lasting memories in it.

We grew up in a family of sea lovers. Our home was welcoming because you never had to worry about sand being tracked in or the kids climbing on the sofa. The floors could be swept, the furniture was indestructible, and everyone was always welcome. Our mother filled bowls with our favorite finds from the beach. She was a bit of a collector herself, and I still remember how she loved the weathered baluster that she saved from an old hotel that was destroyed in the 1938 hurricane. "It's history" she would say.and kept in in a special place for everyone to see, with all it's time-worn imperfections. Little did she know, that replicas of the same type of thing are now being made to use as home accents. Windows were kept open and white curtains blew in the wind. Fires were lit in the fireplace most nights and after spending the day clamming, she would make the most delicious baked clams I ever had. Now, I'm going off on a tangent. The point is, your home can be your castle, simple is good and it doesn't have to cost a lot to make it wonderful.

Designer Tips
Discover Art
Have you ever walked into a room and become mesmerized by one incredible painting? The colors so vivid and the mood so dramatic that it transformed the room and reminded you of your favorite place. That's what a painting can do...it breathes new life into the room, establishes a mood and feeling. Your art should be a reflection of what you are passionate about. People who live their lives with passion, surround themselves with the things they love and are passionate about... their work, family and friends..,They celebrate their lives. For us, it's the sea and all the beauty in nature. Not everyone can collect an original oil by their favorite painter but, today, Giclees are making owning incredible art much more affordable. Giclees are a process of taking the original art and reproducing it on a canvas or paper..In Giclee printing, no screen or other mechanical devices are used and therefore, there is no visible dot screen pattern. The image has all the tonalities and hues of the original painting. Giclee (pronounced Gee'clay) is a French term meaning to spray or squirt, which is how an inkjet printer works. We always look for pieces that have limited editions and are signed by the artist, making them more valuable and keeping the pieces special. Photography is also being printed on canvas now, and it can be a great way to add that perfect setting to your room
Design For Less

Did you know that one of the ways to save money on decorating your home is to hire an interior designer? Most people feel that a designer will cost them more than if they did it themselves. In reality, a good designer can save you costly mistakes and work within a budget that you set. I can't tell you the number of times that I have walked into a home that someone had obviously just spent money on furnishings and collecting accessories, but it just did not look pulled together and the scale of the furnishings were all wrong for the room. By pulled together, I don't mean that it has to be lavish or overly- decorated. In fact, the key to good design is to not look decorated but collected over time, Designers, whose priority is to know who their clients are, their lifestyles, their budgets, their tastes, and their hobbies, will help you create a home that you love and will give you the support you need to make the right decisions. Often, the best time to call in a designer if you are planning to build a new home is at the very early stages. Before the building actually begins. Getting their input on the room layouts and the design details in the blueprint stage, will ensure that the spaces were well thought out and the furnishings will work well in the space. Even if you are not beginning from scratch, a designer can help work with the placement of furnishings and make suggestions on the changes you can make to make your home the best that it can be. .
What Really Matters...

Passion -we each harbor the ability to be passionate about our lives. . It's the feeling we get when we're in tune with something larger than ourselves. Passion makes us feel alive, makes us certain that we walk this planet for some purpose.
