Maundy Thursday:

The Church through the ages has marked the Thursday before Easter as a time to commemorate the Institution of the Lord's Supper and the giving of the new Commandment to "Love One Another" (John 13). Join us in the Latimer Room on the second floor at 6:00 P.M. for a light dinner of lentil and vegetable soups, a Lord's Supper Mediation, and the celebration of the Lord's Supper around our dinner tables. We need at least eight crock-pots of soup. Please contact Sue O'Donnell at susanmarit@gmail.com or Aggie Sterlacci at patsterlacci45@comcast.net. Children are welcomed to participate along with their families in this meal.

On Thursday, April 7, as announced, the congregation gathered for an open meeting of questions answers with elders Pastor Burt and Paul Dernavich. The evening was very fruitful as leaders gave their perspectives on the recent history of WellSpring Church. The present and former elders currently attending WellSpring will be meeting to continue the conversation. The goal is that past mistakes and misunderstandings will be rectified and where confession and forgiveness are needed they will be offered for both the honor of Christ and the good of the church. Leaders are pursuing possible dates for this next meeting. Please pray with us that this congregation might be what we are called to be and we might walk in a manner worthy of our calling in Christ with all humility, gentleness, patience bearing with one another in love and eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace. (Eph. 4:4:1-4, paraphrased).

New Members Class and Orientation Friday, May 13, 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 14, 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon. Please contact Aggie Sterlacci if you are interested in attending patsterlacci45@comcast.net.

From Pastor Burt:

This Sunday, April 16, we will continue our journey through the Gospel of Luke as we come to our commemoration of the Crucifixion and Resurrection the following week. We will be in Luke 9:51-62 and complete this mini series on the "Jesus We are Called to Follow." We will revisit themes that Luke has already emphasized earlier in this chapter of the suffering of Christ and of his Disciples. Two phrases in this passage will guide us in our own "cross-walk." "He set his face to go to Jerusalem" (Luke 9:51) and "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God" (Luke 9:62). Here we see the determination, commitment, steadfastness and perseverance that are required for us modeled in Jesus. In preparation for this Sunday, the following resources from Desiring God Ministries are recommended.

The first is a biographical study of the life of one of the great heroes of 19th Century British Christianity, Charles Simeon. God used this man's life as an impetus in my call to pastoral ministry.

The second is an entire book provided free of charge from 2007 Desiring God National Conference titled Stand! It is a call and encouragement to faithful and steadfast living for Christians in every setting and stage of life.

Book Table:

Two new Puritan Paperbacks from Banner of Truth have been added to the Booktable this week:

All Things For Good by Thomas Watson, the most readable and engaging of the Puritans. This is an extended study on Romans 8:28, "God Works all things together for good." Watson explains how both what seems to be best and worst in our lives are all for the Christian's good and the glory of God. $5.00

The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment by Jeremiah Burroughs

The publisher writes: "Burroughs was much concerned to promote (1) peace among believers of various 'persuasions' (2) peace and contentment in the hearts of individual believers during what he describes as 'sad and sinking times.' "The Rare Jewel" concentrates upon this second aim. It is marked by sanity, clarity, aptness of illustration, and warmth of appeal to the heart. 'There is an ark that you may come into, and no men in the world may live such comfortable, cheerful and contented lives as the saints of God'." $5.00

We also have several titles dealing with the meaning of the death of Christ on the Cross. Enrich your Easter week by a concentrated focus on what has been done for you.

Lastly we have a new book of daily family devotions geared toward younger children. Each day the devotion is based on a letter of the alphabet. God's Alphabet for Life. Using the alphabet as a guide, this book provides 26 devotional meditations for young children (ages 4-9), based on Bible texts that children can easily memorize. God's Alphabet for Life stresses that, like adults, children must be born again, come by faith and repentance to the Lord Jesus Christ, and live lives of thankfulness to God for His great salvation. $5.00
